OK? Rear Plate Message
The first concern of my new BRZ is ditching the rear license plate frame that advertises the Honda car dealership I bought it from. Attempting to think of a message that would fit well, I'm thinking of :
DRIVING MANUAL LEAVE AMPLE ROOM Would anybody find this funny? I am thinking this is practical because certain people leave no room for error when parking on a hill. Might give me some leeway half the time. Also thinking of a certain Gandalf quote. :D |

I'd find it funny that the person driving the car couldn't drive a manual well and needs a ton of space.
Caution wide turns would also be good! |

It's hard when you're parked facing the top of the hill ~35° angle and a car is barely a smartphone length behind you, especially when I'm still getting the hang of the car. |

Don't think about it. Just get off the break, blip the gas, and feather the clutch. I always do the same motion at the same speed whether I'm on a hill or not. Even if the car behind you looks to be really close in your mirror, you probably have at least 2ft of space. If you can't manage it in 2ft... find a steep hill and practice I guess. I'm more embarrassed if I accidentally rev too high and make a lot of noise as I set off, rather than rolling back a bit. I see that all the time. They're so afraid of stalling, it sounds like they're at 2.5k as they get going. |
Best thing to do when taking off on a hill is to use the ebrake to hold the car until the clutch starts to grab. It is also useful when you want a very responsive take off. Hold the ebrake, slightly engage the clutch so the car moves just a bit, fully disengage the clutch, off the ebrake, take off when ready.

This thread is for license plate frame, not how to drive manual in a hill.
I'd rather put something like: watch out, im low. |
CAUTION!
OFTEN SIDEWAYS |
I have seen window stickers that you could use temporarily. IMO totally worth it if you are learning, don't be embarrassed about what some ass thinks about it.

Thanks guys. So far I've been okay. I'm just worried that one day I'm going to make a slight mistake and crash into the car behind me. I still have a week or two before my license plates come in so I still have time to ponder.

"Cowboys butts make me nuts"
Use the e brake on hills. Why would you happen to make a mistake one day? It's not a hard concept. |
When ever you can find a hill to practice on, it takes time to master it. I remember I was nervous on hills for months in my first manual.

Parking Brake if you must, but it's really not hard to not roll back.. slide your foot off the brake to hit the gas as you let out the clutch.
