Anyone that added aftermarket sub/amp using LOC
Are you happy with the results? How would you compare to low-level preouts on an aftermarket HU?
I finally got my sub running today, and to be honest it sounds absolutely terrible. It's loud, but super messy. It doesn't "hit." I'm new to LOC's.. I was scratching my head when the gain on my amp was minimum, gain on the line driver was minimum, and my sub was plenty loud. [edit] Just plugged the high level connector right into my amp instead of the converter, amp at 1/2 gain and the sub is blaring and muddy. Same amp/sub on my old car, and I could push the amp almost max, just shy of clipping, and the sub would pound. Can anyone please explain? :) (the only reason I got the LOC was since I plan on adding another amp that doesn't have high level inputs) -- On another note, the radio seems to do some auto sound leveling. At low volumes, my bass is crazy, and when I crank it, it seems to automatically lower the bass (to protect the door speakers probably). I'm just surprised, I didn't hear any other woes on this forum about aftermarket subs w/ high level inputs. |
The high level outputs to the rear amp on this car seems to be really weak. I run a small amp in the back for the infinity reference speakers I put in the front and tried running it off the high level inputs, and the amp was putting out really low signal. Unfortunately my amp has no gain control. So I put a loc on the highs and adjusted it to low, basically added gain control to my amp and it sounds much better. I've got the same signal going to my basslink and it sounds much better. I was initially confused because the "high" output from the head unit seems to be lower than standard (high output to the high input on my basslink resulted in barely any sound even with sub gain cranked). But the "high" output directly into the low inputs on the basslink resulted in muddy sound with lowest gain setting. Loc fixed all that for me.

Mine sounds great, hits extremely hard. Running 2 amps off the rear amp signal - 1 for the front stage and 1 for the sub.
EDIT: How do you have everything hooked up? Are you running a low pass filter on your amp? |
