Mold in brake fluid reservoir
 

Hi guys,

Just did a scheduled check on the fluids on my car and I found some mold in the brake fluid reservoir. Is there any cause for concern? I know it'll be best to bring back to the dealership but I would like to know what causes this or if there's any potential hazards that it will lead to.

Car is at 6000 miles. Brake fluids were untouched.

I didn't think anything could live in brake fluid, damn... are you 100% sure it's mold?

You should be able to remove that mesh filter and clean it off. If it IS mold, then it might be growing from moisture in the air above the brake fluid. Once its clean, flush/bleed and keep an eye on it.

Does seem like it's mold though. Haha. Can't be 100% sure. I wiped clean the filter, will change out the fluids after my next track day.

Since most brake fluid is hygroscopic, and most mold likes moisture, I doubt the brake fluid would leave enough moisture for a mold to grow .....;)

Yep, I reckon it's just "crud" ..... :D
