Ignition Problems

I have a 2013 BRZ limited, and I've been having some starting issues. I have to push the button a number of times before my car turns on. Anyone else having the same issue?

Manual or auto?

This happened to me a few times recently [2013 LTD] Nothing when push start, had a flashing key symbol on instrument panel. Thought my battery was dead on key fob, so I grabbed my other fob and it started right away. It happened again with second key fob later on, push start and flashing key symbol on instrument panel. Anyhow, to make a long story short, both times push start failed, I had used keyless entry. Meaning I walked up to car and pulled handle to unlock. When I push unlock doors with key fob, I never have the issue. I'm sure there's a logical explanation, But I'm too lazy to investigate it further...

I have never seen that.
Mine starts every single time on the first try.
Never more than 2 seconds of cranking even when below freezing.

22,000 miles.

If you are pushing the button and nothing happens, then maybe it is the clutch switch (assuming MT)

I was considering the clutch, but my buddy had the same issue on his is250 and that was auto.

I've had it a happen twice before. All electrical came on and the gauge did the needle sweep, but didn't even try to turn the engine over. Nothing at all. Walked out if the car, locked it, came back in and it worked. No idea why and I know the dealer will never be able to recreate so meh.

The steering wheel lock could be the issue as well.

lookchris 09-13-2014 01:34 AM

Such a weird problem. I notice it happens more when I drive with the a/c on prior to me starting it again.

Muskokan 09-13-2014 10:48 AM

When this happens id try pumping the clutch a couple times, and/or hitting it 2 without clutch to turn everything on first, then clutch and start from there. Sounds like a safety thing which I would assume would be the clutch sensor.

And hey if all else fails, bump that sucka your in a manual son

Would agree completely if a key but not sure how the wheel lock works with the button. My old lancer used to do that all the time. Just give the wheel a twist until the lock clicks and try again. Worth a shot.
