What oil are you using?
 

I do not agree with the 15 000kms service intervals on the 86 and I plan on changing oil every 7500kms.

What oil are you guys using? Whats best?
I asked a buddy with a WRX and they seem to be using Liqui Moly

By the way, Toyota wants R117 per litre x 6

LM get my vote. But while under warranty stock oil is what my car wil get.

LM for Subaru, but Toyota OE while under warranty. To date 44563km and no top-up necessary. 15k intervals. I would, however, recommend changing the air filter every 15k if not using washable and procure from Subaru dealer for price...

He must not have gotten the memo - Motul Le Mans is the new LM. :D

I agree and would like to use the OEM while under warranty. Problem is its crazy expensive!

Not sure but they are using Liqui Moly so it'll be cheaper from Autozone.

I would seriously not mess with it though, if something serious goes wrong and you don't have the Toyota approved oil in the engine it's going to hurt.

I asked the guy at the last service and he said its no prob if i want to do extra oil changes myself. He did not mention about what oil to use etc. though.

Either way, if something does go wrong, whats the chances they will test the oil and figure its not the OEM one?

If it's an engine failure then the chances are pretty good.

I wouldn't trust a mechie's opinion on anything warranty related.

Do not do an oil change yourself if its under warranty. I have asked a service manager about the same thing. He said it is a nono!

I also wanted to do an early oil change. If you want an early oil change you must go to a toyota dealership.

I change my engine oil every 7500 and my gearbox and diff oil every 15000 because I track my car, and it's supercharged.
I have my Toyota dealer do it, using Toyota OEM oils and filters, and I pay for whatever's outside the service plan.

They obviously know my car is S/C, and they also know that I'm a frequent track visitor, but I have a great relationship with them and they know that I'll never BS them to get a warranty claim when I don't deserve it, but equally so, if it's something that has nothing to do with my SC or tracking, then they know they must fix it or I'll rip their hearts out - LOL!!

Toyota does not make oil. So first mistake is to call it OEM oil. There is a spec on this oil ...... if you use the specified oil and that is not a brand BTW, loads of technical funny talk ...if you match or exceed that spec Toyota has no leg to stand on if there is a engine failure.


Toyota uses a fleet oil and I would not touch that crap with a pole. The same oil is used across various platforms ...... your 86 wasn't designed to spec ...it was built down to a price point.

the "OEM" oil (the one from toyota) on the bottle says its for diesel engines...

Wonder what the one from Subaru says?
