17x8.5 wheel selection

I'm having a heck of a time weeding through all of the wheels that do (and mostly don't) fit the FR-S and my needs.

I'm looking for a light weight, cost effective 17x8.5" wheel. I really want them to be 5x100, but I am wondering if in order to get what I want I need to run hub adaptors to 5x114.3

The only thing I have found is the SSR Type F.

What other choices are out there?

There are choices out there, searching for subaru wrx/sti wheels generally returns better results

Matt Andrews 05-31-2012 10:56 PM

are wrx/sti wheels generally 17x8.5?

Can't be 17x8?

My shortlist:

17x8 OZ Ultraleggera $276 17.5lbs

17x8 Enkei RPF1 $252 15.6lbs
17x8 OZ Alleggerita HLT $339 15.6lbs
17x8 Kosei K1 TS $269 15.5lbs
17x8 Rays 57 Ultimate 400+ 16.5lbs
17x8 TD Pro Race 1.2 $300 19.8 lbs
17x8 Wedssport TC105N 14.85 lbs

whys the title 15x8.5?

i clicked on this thread thinkking "WtF someones gona have a clown car"

Ha. Old habits die hard. I've owned 4 miatas. Anything bigger than a 15 is death on that chassis. Should be 17x8.5.

I could settle for a 8" wheel, but I'd like as much wheel as will fit properly. I'll likely be running Nitto nt01s in a 235/40/17. They'd fit on a 8, but a 8.5 would be better suited. If I stay with 8s I'll end up with rpf1s I think. How much are the wedsports?

17x8.5 CE28Ns come in offsets 40, 44 and 52 (the last one would not be likely to fit).

Yeah I gave up the 17x8.5 search awhile ago. Everything I found was heavy or expensive. I'm over the days when I was willing to spend thousands on wheels :)

I'll be watching this thread though :)

how about a 17x9?

It looks like 949 Racing has a wheel developed as well...

I would like to see some pictures on the fitment on the front, though.
I loved them on my Miata!

Wouldn't complain about SSR Type Fs...a pit pricey but light and strong.

6ULRs for these cars that would probably be amazing (knowing how much Emilio prioritizes performance and fitment). Supply is the only issue with those since he does relatively small batches. Tested & proven on teh Targa Miata though!

Edit: those Mach Vs look VERY interesting! Similar to the 5Zigen FN01RC style wise but, um, that fitment! Hopefully someone from the Subie side will chime in...otherwise please do share whatever you find out!

Double edit: Best wheel thread yet. Thanks guys.

My first major modification will be hub adaptors to 5x114.3. Its a lot more cost effective in the long run.

Matt Andrews 06-03-2012 09:26 PM

Emilio says he has found the optimal size and offset for what will fit without modification. H will have new wheels in the new year specifically for this car. I had several sets of his 15x9 for my miata race car. Would love them again for this car.

I think I'll call Mach v tomorrow.

Ignoring offset, what is the biggest wheel that will fit without a silly stretched tire? 17x9?

What wheel offset do you think you'd need if you bought hub adapters? I hear mackin is making a low profile adaptor. How big are the currently available ones and what do they weigh?

To keep it all in the same place,

17x9 with a +42 works with a 245/40/17
