Metro Police

My wife used my car today as i took hers in for a service, So this afternoon a Metro Police traffic person, pulled her over for a non compliant number plate in the front, he then threatened to throw her in jail and in-pound my car if she did not buy him a cool drink\coke and ended up taking R150 from her, i am obviously pissed off at the Metro Police and want to loose my shit.

1st off, can they throw you in jail on the spot or are they only able to give you a fine?

2ndly, i hate the big ass nr. plate on the front of our cars, i've seen a lot of cars that dont have a front nr. plate attached but rather laying on dash, and not to mention that most Bike's dont even have nr. plates in GP.

Sorry to hear, but yes - wrong or obscured plate is worse than having no plate.

http://www.aarto.gov.za/downloads/02...2008-Part1.pdf

"Failed to affix both number plates of a vehicle"

"Vehicle with licence numbers which were in any way
obscured or had become illegible"

"Displayed a licence number, or anything purporting to be
a licence number, not applicable to the vehicle"

Those are the 3 they can lock you up for.

Hmmm suggestion ...if you know you are not complaint, take the hiding like a man.

I agree that bribery is unacceptable but then, so is roadworthy plates :D

Speedtrap detector is legal - and most Metro's don't know what it is anyway (good investment!)... Jammer is defeating the ends of justice, however, and will result in arrest potentially...

raven1231 09-23-2014 04:39 PM

in theory any cop can make up a reason to arrest. This isn't to say the prosecutor will press charges however

Not quite as easy in ZA...

Constitution and AARTO act sometimes work in driver's favour...

Oh I agree but you could still be arrested and hauled to jail. Doesn't mean anything will come of it or that the cop will be found to have had probable cause however.
