Passing on the front straight....
... geared down to 2nd (could have left it in 3rd) because the guy's too slow around 8-9-10, ready to pass him on the front straight as soon as he gives me the go ahead... wait... he's not giving me the go ahead time for plan B....
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAK3DocCPGE"]meep meep - YouTube[/ame] This was last Thursday at Mosport big track, had a blast with the BRZ. |
could be the camera distortion but to me it looks like you weren't aggressive enough through 9 and 10
you slowed down to his pace, which left him doubting whether you actually wanted to pass. I would have carried the momentum right through 9 and got on his ass to let him know whats up and let off just a bit so that he's not swatted for 10 and might have gave you a point by then |
True I could have been much closer to him, but given that this was his first time at track, I didn't want to follow too close to him such that he ended up making a mistake and I ended up getting collected by his mistake, especially in the group i was in. And we were on his bumper on the back straight enough times in the morning and he didn't even see us.

Was that on Saturday? If so I was watch you guys from the karting track at the end of the back straight. (turn eight)

This is why I'd much rather lap with the ASE lapping club. You don't have to wait for point bys. You can point someone by if you want but if your doing the passing then you set up and make the pass. Simple as that.
Now in saying that, this group is experienced lappers and racers. Passing is done on the straights only, no dive bombing apexs etc, but your well aware of when you are going to be passed because your aware of your surroundings. All passing is done off line. Very safe and very fun. |
This was at the JRP track day this past Thursday. I've been to the previous one and it was a lot of fun, I think the only challenge is getting the beginner/intermediates made aware of their surrounding and allow people to pass vs holding them up for a good portion of a lap.
All in all, I was pretty happy with the day, things were MUCH better in the afternoon and had a lot of clean laps after a driver meeting before the afternoon sessions due to the number of complaints from drivers. |
