High beams

I've done some poking around the forums, but haven't seen a topic for it. Has anyone installed high-beam bulbs that are much brighter than stock? I tend to use my high beams a lot more than my horn.

So are you asking for laser beams for your car to use against others? J/k. Anyways there are topics on this. If you modify the base of some other bulb it will do what your asking here. I forget the details but Google is your friend.

Okay, I poked around here seeing if someone had done it for out cars, but didn't see a thread specific to it. To the Googles!

If you really want bright high beams I recommend getting a HID kit and some aftermarket headlights to install them in. That is what I have and when I use the high beams they are so bright that the light from them reflecting off of the highway signs is almost blinding. It is like having twin suns in your headlights. :) If you go that route I strongly recommend getting some Lamin-x headlight protection film as the aftermarket unit's outside lens is vulnerable to the clear coat/UV coating peeling off or cracking from sun exposure. The film will keep them looking like new and from sun damage.

If the FR-S/BRZ/GT86 uses 9005 bulbs for High Beams, then look no further than 9011 HIR bulbs. I know some manufacturers use them as OEM, and they are bright as f@ck. My headlamps use them... its a very awesome upgrade (look it up in the interwebs).

They only need a small mod to fit the 9005 housing.

You could give our new XML2 LED's a try:

They produce 1,420 lumens

We would recommend running an HID kit with a relay harness for the high beams if you are looking an improvement over the factory halogen bulbs. :D

This. The bulbs are a bit expensive, but they're damn close to the brightness of HID.

HID isn't ideal for high beams because:
- HID life is significantly shortened if they're used for short intervals.
- HID's take time to warm up to output full brightness, leaving you without enough light for safe driving. There's a reason not a single OEM uses HID high beams that aren't a bi-xenon low beam.

Those LED's are interesting, but by the numbers they're lower brightness than stock (9005 bulb puts out 1700 lumens)
