New owner with some q's

How goes guys?

Been reading up so much on this baby and finally got my hands on a galaxy blue std 2012 with 47000 on the clock. She drives like a bomb. Only ish is gti and polo drivers trying to take me on every stretch haha.

First thing i noticed is my handbrake is too high, so might have to get that tightened. At 47k on the clock what should i also be checking out for?

I also noticed there are some software updates and perhaps recall/fixes that may need to be carried out. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? I would be most grateful for any advice.

Still under warranty so looking into the BRZ exhaust and on the lookout for a decent intake.

That's me!

Welcome,
I also have a 2012 STD, but just hit 30k on the clock, so no idea what to look for at 47K

Welcome,

If your gear knob is rattling at high revs, you can have that replaced under warranty. The only one I know of.

welcome, the only reason those cars want to play with you on the straights because they know it will be an easy kill.

What kind of rattle is it? Should it be severe? or slight shake? because i think mine shakes slightly even when cruising

It's not a major rattle, but it's worth changing, there was a directive issued by Toyota to change that, not sure about the Brz

had my gear lever replaced under warranty, but i have notes ed the gear knob vibrating\ rattling heavily from about 5500rpm, as if the plastic part with the gear layout is loose.

kan this be replaced under warranty??????

Congrats Shay999, where about in Jhb are you at, best advice is to join the guys on one of the next meets, and you will get the best advice!

Your best bet would be to phone toyota and check if your gear lever was changed, and if you have the latest software. If your gearbox is still rattling, you can get the mount tightened

FT_86_SM_GP 09-04-2014 05:31 AM

@Scarl3t you can check up if that's possible under warranty, if not pm me, Il give you details of a guy that does stronger mountings for our gearbox that solves the problem, he's in the Randburg area and cost around R600 if I'm not mistakened

Hi guys and thanks for the replies! @FT_86_SM_GP, I'm currently in Paulshof, I'll definitely check out my software at Toyota when i go next.

Awesome, I would love to come to a meet.

I don't think there is a car more in tune with it's driver than the 86, every other car I drive now feels like a disconnected, empty experience. Loving it intensely.

IMO, even a slight rattle is unacceptable.

Mine has it, I need to have it fixed too.
