Hole torn underbody

So last night on the highway someone wrecked and debris went everywhere, and I swerved to barely miss tires and stuff laying out in the road, but hit something, and it was dragging under my car so I pulled over and found a foot long iron chisel sticking out the bottom of my car, I consider myself lucky it didn't destroy my tire! :eyebulge:

So anyway I got this big hole to deal with now. I don't want rust and water to get in. What can I do to fix it? I have no welding skills, only hammer, glue and duct tape skills.

Don't you have insurance for this ?

D_Thissen 09-02-2014 01:20 PM

Yeah I'd be talking to insurance about that one. Or just beat it with a hammer and use some 100mph tape.

^dont get me wrong, new guy is no Billy Mays, but they sprayed a screen door on the bottom of a boat and it worked so I can see this as a fix here.

Like all "as seen on TV" stuff, its crap. My dad bought like 5 cans of it. PlastiDip is thicker and holds together better.

have you gotten it wet yet?

The guy who wrecked is responsible, so you need his insurance info and file a claim through your insurance. If you didn't get his info, it should still be covered under comprehensive for your insurance (make sure it's not collision, which will make your rates go up and may be considered an accident).

I seem to recall Timo Rautiainen catching a metal bar in his ass during a WRC race. It pierced the shell, the seat, and the codriver.

I guess my question should be, what is a body shop going to do to repair this? And will the metal rust?

Weld it and spray with rustoleum. ;)
