New Scion Fr-S Owner, quick question.

Just upgraded from a run down '94 jeep cherokee to my first new car, and I am in love with it. Only really have 1 issue with it so far, about 5-10 minutes after I stop the car and get out, it honks 4 times very rapidly. I read through all provided materials given by the dealer but could not find anything about this. Havent been able to find anything about it online either. What is this? How do I get it to stop? Any and all help would be amazing!

You have a custom alarm installed? It happens when you get out or when you press something on your key? More info needed.

Yes it is an advanced alarm system. It only seems to happen after i get out of the car and hit the lock on the key fob. Beeps once and flashes the lights and then after about 5-10 minutes it honks 4 times very rapidly.

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, it's good to have another XJ veteran here. I kept mine when I bought my BRZ. Sometimes I want to go places the BRZ just can't go, so I think the two complement each other. Having the BRZ as my daily driver freed up the XJ for major modifications. You will find a lot of similarities between this community and the XJ people, but a whole lot more differences as XJ people are willing to do some seriously ghetto things to their rigs that twins owners wouldn't.

As for your question, this isn't the first time this has come up, but I don't recall seeing a 100% reliable fix. Do you have the factory alarm turned on? If I remember correctly, the beeps after sitting for a while have to do with the car setting itself off after cooling for a while. The problem may stop if you have the dealer turn the alarm sensitivity down.

On the past Toyotas, the car would honk when you turn off the car and remove the key because it would be in "Valet Mode".

However, this is not your case. Since you're running an aftermarket alarm, it would be hard to diagnose what's causing it to honk as almost all FRS only have an engine immobilizer. Do you happen to know the make and model of the alarm?

It is just lonely and yelling at you to come out and play!

I wonder if it's the same alarm my car has... if it is, it should have a small red button near the trunk button switch.

We can't really help you with an aftermarket alarm w/o knowing what alarm it is. Try going to the place that installed it and asking them?

How would i find out the brand for the alarm? Im going to get all the paperwork and all that real fast to take a look at.

Cmayfield 09-02-2014 03:06 PM

Luis: yes there is a small red button by the trunk release. I have it currently pressed in.

aznatama: The dealer i got it from said that the port dealer installed it, thats in houston and im not about to drive there for an alarm issue.

Cant seem to find anything saying what model/brand of alarm system it is. Will continue searching but most likely will be going to service department to let them take a look.

Oh, it's dealer installed before you bought it? Then just let them deal with it.
