Southern Florida autocrossing?
Does it exist? I stumbled across the "Equipe Rapide" sports car club but it looks like it hasn't even active in awhile. Florida region SCCA doesn't really seem to have a program for solo, but do for time trails and such (this is good, but not always in the budget)
Any ideas or something I'm missing? I may be moving to Boca Raton in January. Thanks! |
Seconding this question! I've been searching for info on autocross here in SoFla but haven't really found much, SCCA or otherwise. Are there really not that many events or have I not been looking hard enough?

In for this too!

Equips rapids is active, the website seems like a decade old but they run events every month. @raul is the man to ask when it comes to autox down here. Hopefully he'll chime in. They run events in sunlife stadium and down at the homestead speedway.

In South Florida, you want to keep an eye out for the following:
www.dlbracing.com For events in Orlando, Deland and Geneva. www.gulfcoastautocrossers.com for Events in Ft Myers www.clubregistration.net for events at Sebring and Sunrise (BB&T Center) www.erscc.com for events in Miami (Sunlife Stadium) Currently, ERSCC events have been cancelled until further notice. Sunlife stadium wants to charge double (triple, really), for the rental of the venue, and insurance companies are imposing higher minimums (from $1M to $5M in liability), making it cost prohibitive to run events without a significant price increase to the drivers. They're looking into other venues and working out the insurance situation. |

I might make it out to the Ft. Myers event next weekend. I see they have a novice school and open practice on Saturday. I do have a little bit of previous autocross experience (4-5 events) but they were in my old FWD Civic Si which was quite a bit different. Would you recommend the novice school for someone like me? |

Absolutely. You get like 9-11 runs in the novice school in the morning. And another 2-4 in the open practice in the afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You might want to check out these links. Baybottom Crawl has been run for over 40 years. I would not recommend it for novices, An error or misjudgement will put you either into gravel, mangroves, or water at a high rate of speed. There is a drop off on both sides of the pavement. Top speed in a non modified production car is between 70-90 MPH, Formula Cars like I drove will hit between 120-140MPH. The fastest section is the right hand sweeper.
E.R. is also a good group to run with. I think they've had some issues with getting sites lately. I'll be glad to answer questions you might have. http://www.ericudell.com/evscc/ [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eomi5OZStvU"]2012 Bay Bottom Crawl Super Stock Record - YouTube[/ame] |
^ That looks a bit too dangerous honestly, and not that much fun. Sweeper/Slalom/Sweeper/Slalom.

I know that things historic and all that but not my cup of tea.
