Clearance issues?
The FR-S/BRZ is fairly low to the ground, stock. I'm used to driving a fairly lowered car (~2" drop on an Si) and can avoid bottoming out at least most of the time.
Just curious if any current owners have had issues with it? I've seen PERRIN's pictures of the huge metal plate to guard the engine against any damage coming from under the car, and that's good to know it is there. While we do have have fairly good roads here in NC, there are some in Charlotte that well.. didn't exactly make the cut. Many of them being driveway entrances or odd speed bumps that tend to be more of a / \ shape instead of a gradual curve. |
I remember seeing a list(possibly here) of tons of cars and their ground clearances. There were many common cars on that list with 1 inch lower clearance. Stuff like Coopers and Miatas for example.
I don't think it will be much of an issue personally. Perhaps shitty speed bumps in apartments. But as a Civic guy you already avoid those. |
Actually the FRS's ground clearance is ample and isn't much less than that of a normal car. Only the seating position and roof-line is very low in the shape and proportions.
Combined with the relatively small size and short wheelbase inherent to cars this size, there isn't much issues with obstacles and bumps. I have mine lowered by a full 35mm and it still covers ground and clears most things without much issues. Much less of a problem than say, my other car which is a Lexus LS430 sedan that has been lowered 40mm, but with its long wheelbase and overhangs, can be much more of an issue with steep ascent of driveways or objects like tire stoppers and curbs. It's pretty clever how the body lines hide the actual apparent height of the floor, and fear not, the FRS/BRZ is fine even with a mild drop! |
Awesome to know! Thanks for chiming in, Moto-P you're always very helpful on here!
