Brake pedal release noise
I have a louder than usual noise occurring when I release the brake pedal. It's hard to describe but it sounds like an unoiled mechanical part. It's not a high pitched squeek but more like the sound of a hand air pump being used to fill a ball or bike tire. I tried wd40 were the pedal leads back to the motor but it didn't help. I knew it wouldn't but I tried. I don't know much about cars but any opinions would be appreciated. I'm taking it to the dealer soon but want to get some ideas before I go in there. My car has 19600 miles and I've had it 2 years. I drive it pretty hard but not track hard. It also slightly makes the noise when I push down on the pedal but it's definitely louder when I let go. Any ideas?

G’Day all,
Unfortunately I think I may have the same issue and have posted on this and the Aussie forum, Ill post the links. I have done a lot of research on this and have been to my local dealer a number of times to no avail. Mine started at about 7000k’s and is intermittent . When I release the pedal there is a slight sticking and once the sticking is over come there is a metallic clunk that varies in volume and severity , I can go for days and not hear it and then out of nowhere its back and all this happened before the pedal reaches the stop. Toyota blamed the pedal linkage adjustment but when I told them I disconnected the linkage and manually actuated the booster rod the same symptom and sound was evident, to which Toyota replied “Oh”it’s a characteristic but could not tell me why it was not there from new or what was causing it, although the tech did agree that its in the booster but would not put it on paper. Toyota will not carry out any further investigation and the dealer has washed there hands of it referring me to Toyota AUS but they refer me back to the dealer. Continual posts on facebook to Toyota AUS and JPN are ignored or blocked. Im off to Toyota head office when im off shift to make some noise. The Toyota customer experience centre said to go to consumer affairs. While researching I stumbled across the Subaru outback forum and those guys are having the same issues on the 2013 out back. All I can say is good luck and keep making noise and we may all get a solution or recall, Im going to keep pushing here in AUS as im tiered of being told this along with the steering clunks over rough roads between 15-25kph are characteristic. KEEP UP THE NOISE and we may get results. So it turns out that it was a brake light switch that was making the noise. Guess the part was defective in some way. Brake pedal goes down, switch actives, weird noise gets made. Same thing on the reverse. All they did was change the whole box that the switch is in and everything sounds good now. Just glad it wasn't a mechanical issues. Just wanted to let you guys know what happened in case someone ends up having the same issue.
