CenCal Yosemite drive Sept.13/14 with Datsun Roadsters...
At the 8/6 day barbecue in Modesto,@mkiisupra shared an invitation to go for a drive with the Datsun Roadsters club through Yosemite. It's not limited to the central valley folks, so if you're interested... :w00t:
Here is the information so far... Sept. 13/14 is the trip weekend. The trip involves one day up and over a pass (Tioga, this year) to Minden, NV. Overnight in Minden, then back home over another pass (4 or 89 or 108 usually). Back home in the afternoon on Sunday. Both days we stop mid-run and eat some food (pot luck style) and picnic. Don't let the overnight or the picnic stop you from coming! There's plenty of food and you can always turn around at lunch or anywhere along the route. Start time: 9:00am Location: Chevron Oakdale: 977 S Yosemite Ave Oakdale, CA 95361 Hope you can make it! :burnrubber: |
Cool. If Crystal has a day off I will go for at least a day portion of the trip I think. Will let you you guys know.

Oh man, I'm so jealous! Even thought there is plenty of good driving roads here in the bay area, nothing can beat all the mountain passes of the Sierras. Awesome driving roads, beautiful scenery and great camping!
Are you guys taking 120 (Tioga pass rd) then heading north to Minden (via 395?) I would recommend doing a stop by Mono lake. And if you have any extra time or are feeling adventurous, the east span of 120, towards the NV border, is my favorite. Great new tarmac and great cresting semi-blind turns ("semi-blind" because you do get to see the next turn at the top of the previous crest). My wife had a blast driving down there, with her calling out the turns rally co-driver style lol. Also, for the folks who are planning on going, I would recommend at least topping-off and bleeding your brakes for the trip back down the hill. I've had to resort to engine breaking the few times I've gone that way after over-heating my brakes (my fault for riding them and being stuck behind an RV). You guys have fun! |
I'm not sure yet on the route. Driving in and through Yosemite was a pastime for me in college  So I can relate to the "stuck behind an RV" issue. Ha! Coming back down, engine braking is the right thing to do on a lot of sections.
I hadn't thought about using Rally co-pilot method :slap: |
Added the Start location and time to the OP!

I hope more peeps are down to roll !!!

Can we get a count of who's all coming on this drive? Also, say whether you expect to be part of the full drive, or Saturday only.
Thanks, ~ Tom |
Dammit, I was really looking forward to this but my wife just told me that our trip to AZ got moved up to the 9/13 weekend
Eric @mkiisupra and I had a blast last year. We drove back after the lunch stop and took some nice twisty roads back home. The Datsun folks were so receptive to the 86 platform. Great group of enthusiast and very warm and fun people. You guys will have fun. Rick |

Might pull some strings and make the trip both days. Going through management training to open a buisness so might have to sweet talk some corporate. Or pay someone, not sure yet.

Ok anyone have ideas for where we staying the night? Any hotels planned out? By the looks of it i will be able to make it!

The roadster group mostly stays at the Quality Inn on the north side of town in Minden, near the movie theater and high school. I have a room there this year. Several have stayed at the local casino's motel (as have I) and both are fine for an overnighter. When we arrive in Minden, the group tends to split up for the night's meal and maybe get together and shoot the bull back at the hotel later as the evening progresses. Now, which car shall it be? Roadster or FR-S... Eric G |
If I wasn't going to be in Pittsburgh I would totally be up to go...
