So what happens if you go past 4000 RPMs during break-in period?
I'm at around 1300 kms (800 miles) now, and I got spirited one night. So I decided to rev past 4000 RPMs consistently for 5 minutes or so.
I never reached 7400 RPM redline, but the most I got is probably close to just under 7000 RPMs... So what happens now? :confused0068: |

Nothing, you get a hug from the car-gods.

If you're going to sell it before warranty ends then you can have fun from the day one (I know I'm going to). ;)

Nothing. I hit the rev limiter on my test drive.

Engine explodes.

Man, you're done. You better sell it before the engine blows up.

Just kidding. It won't hurt it to go above 4000. In fact, there are some very good arguments floating around on the board regarding winding it out a few times during break-in. The critical thing is that you don't break it in on the highway using cruise control. The rest is just extra precaution. |
You wind up with a better performing engine with better ring seal :)

If you do it in 3rd gear, you hit 88mph and go back 20 years in time
