Just wanted to get some ideas from those running any combination of header- front pipe/over pipe with the stock catback(midpipe+axleback). I'm really not liking much of the sounds with full exhausts out there(this includes headers) and since most of the power comes from the front section, i wanted to hear those who have this setup. I know back pressure, free flowing exhaust... bottom line is i don't have a race car and im not worried about that, if i have to leave 1-3hp from a full cutback setup to avoid headaches i'll be happy. Thanks to those who posted. Oh, heads up.. i have done searches. Thanks :thumb up: :burnrubber:

I ran my revworks UEL for a while without any other exhaust mods, just a tune. Sounded like this clip.

This compares complete stock vs header and stock header-back

Nice, sounds really good, just a little more throatyness and depth. Really opened up, Thanks!!
Here's my stock contribution, hopefully i could add my header front/over pipe combo and tune then report back.

The video is kinda shitty, When I get the new downpipe from Nameless I'll do an update with more vids.

OFT Stage 2 EL E85 V2.3
Nameless EL Header
Nameless mid/over with Cat/ Helmholtz Resonator
Perrin 2.5 Resonated Cat Back
K&N drop in filter

Sounded better when I had the Perrin 3' CB. On the other side the 2.5 is not as loud. I would say its pretty close to stock volume inside the cabin.

That actually sounds really good, would think it would be loud with a full exhaust, sounds like a e46 m3. Does the down pipe have a cat? You could hear the slight metallic rasp from the down pipe. Sounds good.

With Catt

Its a really nice setup for a daily driver. No drone, quit in the lower RPM's and sings when you get on it. Best way to describe it is that it sounds more like a sports car now. My last car was a 05 STi with an UEL header and open 3" so I wanted to do something a little different this time around.

Brinks 08-21-2014 06:25 PM

My old Perrin 3" CB, everything else is stock.

Axleback or catback? Sort of what in looking for, a sportier sound but not a dead give away that there's an exhaust.
Keep them coming guys, header with over/front pipe or headers alone on stock exhaust thanks

Stock fp

Ft86speedfactory catted uel header and motiv catted FP here. Car might be a tad bit louder now. This video was when I first put it on.

Stock catback? Tips look bigger. Seems the Perrin is popular when it comes to quiet exhausts. Looking for stock rear section, just headers and over/front pipe.

Thanks all for your posts.

Those are gt86 exhaust tips. Sounds great

Yeah stock cat-back. Tips are just the stock GT86 ones, doesn't affect sound.

akyp 08-22-2014 02:54 AM

Been trying hard to find some sound clips of P&L 4-1 EL catted header on stock catback but to no avail. Closest one I can find is FA20Club:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZjAFFjhEFo"]2013 FRS FA20Club 4-1 EL header - YouTube[/ame]

If the P&L sounds similar then it will be mine someday.

yomny 08-22-2014 03:11 AM

I think for those not looking to make much noise, this car with most if not all headers and stock exhaust sounds nice.

JimmyMac 08-23-2014 05:28 AM

I run the P&L catless header with P&L overpipe and P&L catted frontpipe with stock catback. No drone on the highway. I'll try and get some "cell phone" vids later on. I also have the catted section for my P&L header, but I don't think it makes too much difference in sound volume. At least from what I remember. I ran the catted section last winter with my Invidia N1 catback. Sold the N1 because it had major drone with my setup, but sounded awesome when I got on it and went through the gears.

B-R-Z 08-23-2014 11:06 AM

Tsudo UEL header (catless), stock over/front/mid pipes, Top Speed Pro 1 axleback.

It sounds perfect, no rasp/drone, just a bit louder than stock with deep clean rumbles.

I only have clips for before and after adding the header, with the axleback installed.

I have a catted P&L header and overripe with a Tomei Ti front pipe and Perrin 2.5" resonated catback. Sounds great, no rasp and not super loud. With the non-resonated Perrin pipe it sounded like crap, very raspy and way too loud. I will try to get a video posted today.

yomny 08-24-2014 03:33 PM

Vids or at least sound file. Would prefer stock rear sections. But some of these do sound right(quiet).

My goal was quiet, to the point where it sounds like an aggressive factory exhaust. Completely happy with my setup, I'd buy the same parts all over again.

yomny 08-24-2014 04:40 PM

That's awesome, that's just want I wanted. See if you could do at least a cell phone vid.

I tried, it sounded like total garbage and idk why, maybe my phone sucks. The sound-only clip works so much better, I can do a better/longer one if you want.

This is the original video i took comparing exhaust notes(335is towards end).. enjoyment purposes

Luis_GT 08-26-2014 10:54 AM

My complete exhaust is extremely quiet... the only issue is an exhaust leak I have at the muffler joint that causes drone between 2500 and 3K RPM inside.

I have a catless Borla UEL, catless Milltek front pipe and a standard Cat back, I could get a video if people like?

Wepeel 08-26-2014 11:43 AM

Running a Borla UEL (newest version), stock OP, Berk catted FP, stock catback. A little louder than stock but still quieter than some sporty OEM exhaust setups I've heard. It's quiet enough that no one would suspect there are any aftermarket exhaust parts on the car. It's raspy/rattly during cold start cat warm up timing but that goes away quickly.

Interestingly the FP seemed to add a noticeable amount of power. I know that doesn't make sense - when I went Stage 1 I noticed some difference, when I got the header and went Stage 2 it made a less noticeable difference, after adding the front pipe I think that registered the most on the buttdyno. Could be placebo but placebo didn't do much for me at Stage 1 and Stage 2.

By standard you mean the original equipment? Would like to hear that.

It gets tricky at times, but the first power mod we do could make it seems like the most power was added, releasing the car from the stock form even, everything after that seems just normal. Let me see some vids.

Sorry! In the UK we say 'standard' rather than 'stock' or whatever. I'll try and get something together.

Well to add to my own thread. Ive installed Ptunings equal length header with tome over-pipe, all else is stock.

Tsudo UEL Catless Header
Invidia Overpipe
Berk Hi-Flow Catted Front Pipe
Invidia Q300 Catback
OFT Stage 2 UEL

Sounds very tame during normal driving, only a bit loud on a cold start up. I would definitely recommend this setup to anyone.

Wayno 11-10-2014 04:05 AM

PSR (similar to Tomei) UEL and over pipe, stock everything else. Sound tube delete. 1 pc drive shaft (whine).

Sounds almost stock, except cold starts! :)

ABout 30 sec into this vid has some throttle...

You can get rid of the cold start pretty easy.

Wayno 11-10-2014 06:43 AM

Why the hell would i do that? I replaced shiv's modified cold start with stock.

No cats so no need to retard timing to warm them up, lowers the noise.

Wayno 11-10-2014 08:02 AM

Well if you have no cats on a street car you're a douche, end of story, even on e85.

Why dont you contribute to the thread and stop the unncesseray comments, because of people like you is why we have to search through pages of irrelevant posts to find anything useful.
