How durable are Michelin Pilot Super Sport on the track?
I have a stock BRZ with Michelin Pilot Super Sports on stock rims. I'm going to attend a track day, and I'm wondering how durable the PSSs are on the track. This is my daily driven car and the tires are superb on the street, and I don't want to destroy them in one day on the track.
Does anyone have any experience with these tires? Thanks! |
I have these tires on my Cayman S and my track wheels for my BRZ. I have put over 6k miles with them on the Cayman, of that 500-700 miles are track miles. And I drove to and from Texas from PA. Still have tread left. I have 1,600 miles on the ones on the BRZ, about 300 track miles... no issues. Great tires. You should be fine. Especially if you are a beginner, you won't be pushing the car very hard.

If anything you'll be able to get your tires pro rated if the tread life doesn't last too long

Thanks for the info, guys!

Dont think mkivsoopra overdriven those tires, more like peeled off from understeering
BTW, dont think MPSS are good track tires... @CSG David keep sending those invoice to @mkivsoopra Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkfQ |
I think on lighter cars like our's, they're fine as mentioned.
I've seen them chunk pretty badly, but only on heavier cars (335i, TT-RS, etc.) |
Very durable tires

I think it does depend on your driving.
As a driver you need to adapt to and drive with what you have. You can't drive your car like a race setup if it has stock alignment with stock tires. You will chunk them. I learned this after I did a session and initially thought the OEM tires were giving up. But I sat down and took a good hard look at what I was doing and realized I was just trying to drive them too hard. Getting on the throttle to early in corners especially. Try to do some laps with minimal tire squeal (and traction intervention if you have it on, oversteer if you have it off). You will see it helps you get smoother. Take what I have to say with a grain of salt, I only started tracking this year. |
