Raceseng Ashiko (Shift Knob) owners...Your thoughts
 

I have the TRD Knob now, but have been coveting the Raceseng Ashiko. I know their Slammer knob is very popular (so much so that I've seen a couple of for-sales and personally know 1 person who's sold their Ashiko in favor of going back to the Slammer).

I'm wondering if a part of that is due to the size of the Ashiko and that it might be better for folks with bigger hands? To which I have (I wear size xtra-large for gloves).

So if folks that have (or had) the Ashiko, can you please chime in on your thoughts both positive and negative? Also, can you specifically give your thoughts about the feel when palming or side-grabbing the Ashiko?

Slammer > side shifting

The Ashiko is pretty massive and even though I do not have gigantic mits, my hand fit fine.

The Slammer is smaller than I was expecting and is the more all around comfortable knob due to its smoother shape (Ashiko = sharper edges).

If you want to train yourself to palm shift only, I'd recommend Ashiko. If you want something more versatile and like molesting your knob alot and are too cool to drive with 2 hands.. definitely Slammer.

Edit: forgot to add.. personally I think the Ashiko looks better.

Ashiko knob owner here. I've never used the Slammer so I can't speak to it. However, I've had the Ashiko for a couple of months and really enjoy the feel. I shift varying ways and don't have an issue with it at all. My hands aren't large and it isn't a problem. I recently installed the Kartboy short shifter and these work very well together. I highly recommend both! Oh, be sure to get the microfiber shifter cover. The knob does get warm after sitting in the sunlight for a while.

I was hesitant to spend that kind of money for a shift knob. I picked up the Ashiko and loved it. It's great for both palm and side shifting, you won't regret purchasing it.

I've owned both the Slammer and Ashiko, their both great! Currently using Ashiko as I prefer both looks and feel

Ashiko's weight is great, i only have stock shitknob as comparison. It is a whole new feeling to shift

I love the Raceseng New Black Mirror finish Ashiko shift knob and Reverse Lockout feels amazing! I went from stock to this but I am very happy I did. My wife drove the car for the first time the other day and was like wow this shifts so easy

Which one you prefer?

I prefer the feel of the Slammer, but the added weight and looks of the Ashiko

So I've had the Ashiko for a little while now.

Pros:
* Palm, standard-grab and side-grab shifting all feel great.
* The extra weight of the Ashiko has a dual effect on shifting:

1. If you've ever felt any resistance when pushing into a gear before, the added weight and therefore added force basically eliminates that situation.
2. The placement of that added weight, on top of the shifter, results in an overall smoothing in shifting gears.

* Easy to keep clean
* Looks AWESOME

Cons:
* Because it's basically a big hunk of metal, it not only gets EXTREMELY hot in the summer and EXTREMELY cold in the winter...It STAYS that way for awhile (I'm seriously thinking about picking up the thermal bag, or maybe just making a cheap DIY version).
* Purists could argue that the smoothing a heavy shift-knob like this provides, is actually counter-intuitive to the more "road-feel" type shifting a sports car like this should have.

Yup, this is the right shift-knob for me. Love it.

I personally like weighted shift knobs, but like @Namuna said, weather could definitely affect the ability to use it in extreme weather conditions. I hated the Lexus IS300 shift knob in the summer

It is definitely cold in the mornings. Yes I live in FL, but it was 19 a couple of mornings this past week! I have the microfiber bag and its money. Another option I considered was a Crown Royal bag; I get a bag to keep my hand warm and something to keep the rest of me warm (or just don't care after a few drinks).

My girlfriend has the ashiko and me the slammer. I get to go back and forth between them pretty often. I prefer the slammer due to the size, but I have big hands and thing the ashiko fits nicely in the hand too. I find the ashiko better for "slamming" but the shape is a little weird (feels high). They are both significant improvements over stock
