What to do about guy trying to run you off the road.

This is the 2nd time he has tried this, I think he is also the one who tried it a couple weeks back. On two seperate occasions. Here is todays event.

The road is a side road, parallel to the highway. The road is 11 miles long. The first 1.5 miles is gravel followed by pavement. The road is dashed (ok to pass) the entire length and only has one side road on it (to a farm, and the back entrance to the highway patrol police building.) The speed limit is 35mph on the gravel and 55/65mph on the pavement. The road has 2 curves, one reccomended @ 35mph and one reccomended at 20 mph (blind curve.)

I never dare speed on the gravel for fear of the many potholes and gravel kicking up = paint chips. However on the pavement I have gone faster through the corners on occasion, never cutting lanes or getting too crazy as every other day there is almost always a marked highway patrol car en route due to the station being close.

After comming off the gravel there is a very slight sweeping (35mph recommended) turn. Just before the curve the road turns to pavement and a 55mph speed limit. Immediatly pass that is a side road followed by a blind hill with a 65mph speed limit sign just over the crest of the hill. After the blind hill and approaching the 65mph speed limit sign is where this occured.

Today I was following a guy doing 35 the entire road and after cresting this hill, decided to pass him. I caught him up to him after the gravel but, hung back as to not tailgate him. After the side road and clearing the blind hill, I look ahead and decide to pass him. He doesn't like this and sweves taking up half the other lane as I'm directly to the side of him forcing me to take 2 drop 2 wheels off the road. I pass him and imediatly gas it to get room between us. I look back and he resumes going 35mph. I drive the rest of my route home.

The only thing I can figure is it is an old farmer who doesn't like people passing him. Teach this city boy a lesson, type... which are abundant here.

I waited for the pavement making sure not to tailgate him, made sure I was clear of the side road, on a straight section, and made sure I didn't pass until I cleared thie blind hill making sure it was safe to do so. Turned on my blinker, dropped into 3rd and passed him at about 60mph.

After he swerved I ran the car up to about 75 to get distance and then dropped down to 65mph once he was well far enough back.

This is my only option for getting home without taking the highway doubling back adding 1hour 15min to my trip so I can't really avoid him. I don't want to surrender either as he isn't in the right himself. I ordered a suction mount for my gopro, which I will try to use next time I drive the road and encounter him. Any other ideas? I can't remember if he had a plate, I wasn't close enough following him to see and they only thing I saw after passing him was a big black brush guard.

Sorry for the rant, honestly I'm pretty pissed and want to get him bad without resulting in myself possibly going to jail. I do have a conceal and carry on me at all times if he did go out of his way to try something after attempting to run me off the road. I'd rather he get a suspended license/fine/jail.

Like I said I'm pretty sure he is the same guy who tried this a few weeks back. The only thing different is I flashed my lights before passing. I'm am sure he will try this again. :mad0260: Tomorrow I will swing by the police station a block down from my work to see if they can advise anything.

That's just super dangerous, there's no reason for him to be doing that sort of thing. You don't try to dissuade someone from doing something by trying to kill them.

If you can record it, give the tape to the police and say it's happened several times before.

I'm not sure what the gun toting rednecks are like around your parts, but I'd be inclined to stop/follow him home and confront him.

Well I'm not a redneck and I tote guns so let's not make too many assumptions. However on topic, get video. It's not what you know but what you can prove. I like the confrontation idea but I dunno how you would go about it. Might want to bring a gun for that one... or a cop.

I say build yourself a hidden oil slick system that you can just pop off, making it 'look' like a leak from your car hand have the oil spill all over the road causing him to swerve. Give him a taste of his own medicine.

But on a more serious note, go pro it with a sticker that says smile you're on camera :)

I had a similar instance. I was driving through the mountains and came up to a really old pickup with some old hillbillies in it. When I found the right time to pass he saw me getting over and swerved to the middle of the road to stop me, when he wen to get back over I ended up down shifting and passing him. As I went by he yelled at me to pull over and fight him as him and his 2 goons flicked me off. My gf and I had a good laugh. Sometimes people are cranky sh*theads just because they can.

Ball bearings...they break windshields.

I used to carry a couple when I rode my motorcycle.

Never used them though.

So basically...you toss them...they bounce up and break glass...they are rounds so they have a predictable bounce...and they roll away from road...so there really isn't any evidence.

Dashcam or go pro mount may be the only thing you can do.

Maybe he got mad at the light flashing. It can mean so many things and people get mad very easily when behind the wheel.

When I use those kind of passing zones I just get the gear I want, signal left, and floor it.
