Low Temp Thermostat

Who all makes them? The only one i've found is from Mishimoto and 60 bucks for a thermostat is absurd. The last one i bought was a 160* from SLP for an LS3 car and it was 25 bucks shipped.

Give it a few years and competition will drive the prices down. Parts for the 86 platform seem to have a premium added to them.

Mishimoto thermostat is only one I know of. Can find it for less than $60

I wouldn't mess with the thermostat. I used a 160 on an LT1 Firebird Formula I had, and it taxed the cooling system too much. Plus, my heater went to crap in the winter.

180 thermo might have been a better choice, but I'm sticking with stock this round.

Is mishimoto really the cheapest? is there not a stant or gates or something? This premium pricing stuff is ridiculous... this is supposed to be a cheap platform... everything for this car costs twice what i expected.

LT1's you run a 160 and an electric water pump. if that doesnt work then you've got other issues.

This. I find it funny that some people treat this car like its a piece of art or something. Come on, it a cheap, err, inexpensive little car built out of Toyota & Subaru's parts bin. Don't get me wrong, they made it work, and I love mine, but I'll beat on it, break it, fix it, repeat until I decide to trade it in. Then one of you guys can buy it, and build a race car out of it, properly. LOL

You mean to say that the people who spend $1200 to Opticoat and clearbra their cars aren't using their money appropriately? I'm shocked! Shocked and dismayed. Why, I may write a letter.

:respekt:

Why? Just means the ECU won't go into closed loop mode and will pop a check engine light.

Not to mention it won't change how the engine runs. If you're overheating you need more capacity, not a lower temp t-stat.

I disagree, this engine runs pretty hot as standard (92 deg C) a colder running engine of 10 degrees or so will allow more spark advance and also colder heads will increase the volumetric efficiency

unless you want to keep the sparkling clean tailpipe emissions at the expense of extra power

You do know the difference between open and closed loop, right? You'll not be making any extra power in open loop.

350matt 08-20-2014 01:33 PM

Well that all depends on how you've mapped it doesn't it

If you have ECUtek etc then there's something to be had by lowering the running temperature

I would just change Radiator.
