BRZ TRD

After over a year in my '13 SWP BRZ limited, I decided it's time for some performance parts. Being conservative in nature, I was attracted by the TRD exhaust and cold air intake. The sound (a little deeper) is just right to my ear. And it appears there's a minor performance boost as well. So I just pulled the trigger. My local Scion dealer (just down the street from my Subaru dealer) will install the parts and I'll get the mfr warranty on them. Can't wait!

I wouldn't bother with the intake. Aftermarket intakes make no difference on these cars.

I'm no expert, but from what I've been reading an aftermarket intake can get you ~5 hp, but an aftermarket cat-back exhaust won't get you anything without doing the rest of the exhaust as well.

Even if you could get 5HP, you wouldn't feel it at the wheels. Typically it's ~1HP or less with aftermarket intakes on these cars.

Read through here and the linked threads before spending ~$500 on something that's more cosmetic than anything:

The TRD, at least on my car, is a lot deeper down low

If I were you at least plug up the sound tube in the foot well to remove extra loudness and keep the OEM intake

I have both the intake and the exhaust and like them. I recommend running a modded snorkel with the TRD intake.

You can get same, if not marginally better gains from a $50 drop in filter like K&N. Your better served going that route.

Aftermarket intake tends to shift your power band higher into the rev range, hence your "5hp" gain but you won't get it until you hit close to redline. Your midrange will goto shitz. No thanks!

That's the route I went, got a Green Filter drop-in. Plan to go FI one day so I'll mess with the intake then.

Plus to truly gain any HPs you would have to tune the car. Drop in filter is the way to go.

Seems like a good route would be doing a header, tune, and a drop in filter. Doesnt change the sound too radically with the header and stock exhaust.

Boy, everyone's pouring a lot of cold water on this. I have no illusions that this will have anything more than a negligible impact on power. I like the sound and the look of the TRD exhaust. And it seems appropriate to add the matching intake - it also looks nice and deletes the silly sound tube. Nuf said.

Rota 08-15-2014 06:37 PM

You're better off grabbing one of these if you want to delete the sound tube: http://perrinperformance.com/i-13324...-fr-s-brz.html
