Hankook RS3: 235/40R18 vs. 255/35R18
 

These are going on 18x9.5 wheels.

I know RS3s run wide. Will I have an issue with rubbing on the 255? It's closer to stock dia. but it seems like too much tire. 235/40R18 is 3.2% taller than stock, is that too much? I like the mild stretch the 235 has. Not sure if it will drive traction control haywire...

If only there was an EHP tire that did okay in rain with relatively low noise that came in 245/35R18.

The production age for most of the closeout tires are from 2009, which is a little concerning but I guess that just means I need to get the most use out of them right away :burnrubber:

I was a little surprised when I got my set of RE11A a couple weeks ago and they have a production date of almost a year ago.

2009? Mind blown, I thought I remember reading something about shelf life on Hoosiers site. At the least I know they said it is important to store slicks in warm temps.

I wonder if they got stuck at the bottom of a pile lol

Yeah, 5 years is a long time for tires to just sit around. According to the TireRack, it is highly recommended that I tire not be used if it is older than 6 years.Which is most likely the reason why they are trying to get rid of all these tires.

Old rubber definitely isn't as sticky as new rubber, but I'm hoping that these old tires will still provide enough decent traction for our little low-powered cars.

TireRack's website is on my bookmark toolbar so I check tires prices every once in a while because sometimes you find close out tires at ridiculous prices and even if they're 4-5 years old you should be able to use them for at least one year..
at that price point it's really hard to pass a deal like that, even if you use them for the rest of the season that's still like 20-25 heat cycles of pure happiness :cheers:

They have a climate controlled warehouse... it should be okay.
