OFT and inspection

Going to the dealer tomorrow for inspection on my car. Do I have to flash the car back to stock tune or can I leave my tune and get it done? Any feedback is appreciated.

I would flash back to stock just in case they decide to update your ECU or something.

Thanks also I have a muffler delete do you think they will give me crap about it? It's Westbury Toyota by the way.

Unless the dealer is doing the inspection for free, you could just go to any old state inspection place.

WhiteFRS69 08-14-2014 08:36 PM

why is the dealer doing an inspection??

im assuming different state, different policy?

i got a 4 year new car inspection on my car, dont have to do any inspection untill 2018

Well I got a call from the dealership about my car's inspection being expired at the end of the month. They proceeded to tell me that I must schedule an appointment with them to get it inspected. Im pretty sure in NY we have to get our car's inspected each year. So I am going to get it done by a local shop I just have a full tank of e85 that I dont want to waste. Do I really need to flash to stock?

you shouldn't need to flash it back to stock for an inspection. if they give you shit, I'm an advisor out in Riverhead

also, flashing back to stock with E85 in the tank would undoubtedly kick on a check engine light which would fail inspection

Is NY also OBD2? PA/NJ I know are OBD2 scans and I think if you are not throwing a CEL then you should be good to go?

You're probably already done with the inspection, but until your car is 2 model years old, the only NY State inspection they do is a safety inspection. No smog systems check. After it hits 2 years, the smog inspection is done via OBDII so as long as your ECU isn't throwing any CEL's and the smog sensors are returning OK statuses, you'll pass. No visual or sniffer test on the newer cars.

NY is OBD2 but only after two model years...so a 2013 car is still under two years and only gets a safety inspection; lights, seatbelts, tires, brakes
