VIS AMS CF hood review

Ordered from Bodykitdepot.com, packaged very very well and delivered at a reasonable time (out of stock at the time of order).

Fit like a glove on the first try of install:

Nice finish, the hood clamps down good when you close it and very large vents for the FI guys:

As for the heat issue, I can see heat waves coming out of the vents when the car is stopped. I have not seen dramatic heat reduction while driving hard or stop and go traffic. However, the recovery time to cool the temp has improved.

I probably need more air coming in now, and plan on drilling the front bumper with small circular holes to see if more air flow will help with the coolant temp issues.

I am planning on paint matching the hood, but do you guys have any recommendations to keep some CF parts visible? Or keep it all CF as is? Or some funky designs? any suggestions would help!

I had asked about painting a CF hood a while back and was told to ghost paint it

Paint the hood, then ghost fade the vents to match the ghost on your wing.

Maybe you can add a bumper vent like Gushi.

I want that vent on each side, 2 vents like the srt4

All white or white with the parts after the vent that are tilted paint black. Carbon fiber doesn't last forever in the sun so I'd paint it.

You all know what i think about CF!!! :)

I'd guess a car with a hood like that must have at least 700BHP. Am I close? I'd guess a car with a hood like that must have at least 700BHP. Am I close?

How hot is that running that you feel the need to do that? That will sure be, ahh, a "unique" look. Drill the hood too! ETA: If temps were a concern, why would you drop that much money on a hood that probably does very little as far as actual useful airflow and not on a racing/upgraded radiator?

How are holes going to improve airflow through this?

@Tromatic Have you seen Kohei's car in person? Do you know that he is turbo? Do you know that more cold air makes more HP? @Tromatic should change his name to Trollomatic!

Not sure if your passive aggressiveness comes from PTSD or getting sexually molested by your uncle Bob playing Doctor when you were young, but keep your idiotic posts to your self dude. I have a feeling you don't have many friends in real life, but be sure to call the help line if you think your gonna pull a Robin William on us.

well, that's probably gonna close the thread.

Too soon Executis, too soon....

m.box.design 08-14-2014 12:46 AM

The guy is just a neglected troll who needs attention. Pretty sure he secretly wishes he could modify his car too but is too self conscious to do so; so he resorts to "laughing at" other cars that are modified. If he was such a purist, he probably wouldn't frequent this forum so much on his high horse. lol. Pretty sure one major aspect of this platform was to be modified by the end user as mentioned by Tetsuya Tada.

Don't pay attention to the trolls. If you give them what they want, they'll never go away.

I quit playing WoW this past April because trying to keep up with "hard-core" progression raiding with my guild while being a student and working a part-time job just got entirely too miserable.

Until then I had been playing since the first day of retail launch, and never had a hiatus until I quit. I raided in several top guilds throughout my time playing WoW, and my guild and I competed in the Live Raid this past Blizzcon (2013).

I do miss it, and the WoD expansion release has me itching to play again, but I think I just wouldn't be happy unless I was doing competitive, end-game raiding.

Oh well :(, hopefully I can commit the time to playing games again soon, but right now I really need to focus on finishing up school and getting a "real job" - especially with the car payments and all.

i played hard core from release till mid burning crusade. then it was off and on playing till now. i usually buy the expansions toward the end and run all the content then cancel my account till the next expansion.

BRZPDX 08-19-2014 01:01 PM

I played on release as well, and faded away after Cataclysm. I've had some friends on the guild for like 6 years which is pretty crazy, not seeing them once in my life.

I might start playing the expansion to keep my self away from getting in trouble or persuaded to party on the weekend.. Married lyfe lol. Also trying to get back in shape.

I'm so out of the loop, may take a while to get used to all the changes. I was more in to Arena PvP when it came out, I think highest I got was 2200 2v2. I did get the Lieutenant Commander rank during Vanilla, which caused me to fail 2 classes in college lol.

I got rank 10 as a level 59 warrior... LoL

But I sucked at arenas highest I ever got was like 1700's.

I had a 70 warrior but quit during WOTLK. I got lieutenant general before they took away the rank system. I also got conquerer for exalted rep in all 3 vanilla bg. And I was among the hated stormherald mace specarms warriors in s2

Chen 08-19-2014 02:06 PM

Ah, I how miss WoW when I hear nostalgia stories like this.
Pre-BC, my warrior grinded rank 13 and exalted reps for all the bg's. Anyone remember old-school AV and how a single game could last a week? Fun times!

Once BC hit, I leveled a DK and stuck with it before I quit after MoP.
I ended up as 2700+ in season 1 ranked BG's and basically lived in WSG when I wasn't raiding. I enjoyed raiding as well. Best memory I had, aside from my first ever Rag kill in Vanilla, was pre-nerf M'uru. I eventually had to quit because of my work schedule and rl.

Anywaysss, love the car man. The hood is damn sexy.

m.box.design 08-19-2014 05:48 PM

I was a pvp junky. I loved all of the original bg's. I was really good at wal jumping in av and was always able to get into the alliance aid station, solo the guards and tap the flag. Xmas av was fun with snowballing people off the mountains.

BadBRZ 08-19-2014 07:24 PM

Pre-tbc wow was the best version of wow there was, they need to make a server that is the last patch the applied for naxx and let us just play that, old ranked pvp system and everything

ilpad 08-19-2014 10:39 PM

id link my armory, but youd all make fun of me.

@BRZPDX Just wondering how the vents are doing with rain. Does the hood have guards underneath, or does water just go all over your engine? Can you post some pics if its not too much to ask of the underside of the hood. I can't see to view the pics in the OP. Thanks

@BRZPDX graduated to an RS4 audi from what i remember it does come with removable rain guards to prevent water from just pouring in on your engine

Thought that based on this pic it would have some sort of guide for the water and not just a hole falling into the engine. Thanks for the update though.

BRZPDX 03-06-2015 07:09 PM

to be honest, I tried not to drive the car in the rain, but the rainguards did its job I think. Not exactly sure where the water was redirected to, but I did not have any issues with my top mount turbo set-up.

I've seen other vented hoods, but aesthetically this was my favorite from function and form perspective. The seibon ones seems too "designed" but this one just has square cut holes, which looks cleaner imo.

yomny 04-30-2015 06:27 PM

Just got some water marks(turned to rust) over the center section of the turbo.. but then again we've had record high rains in the past week here in Florida.. not bad.
