I was on vacation when my beater's license plate expired and a meter maid put a ticket on it. i left it parked on the street by my apartments which is legal. and the ticket was for a car parked on a public street with expired plates.

Our 86 Taillamps are intended to have some form of reflectivity. I see people changing side reflectors and rear tails all over. Don't know how some aftermarket manufacturers can claim their lenses are DOT/SAE.

Here is how some of the RCW is written:
46.37.100
Color of clearance lamps, side marker lamps, backup lamps, and reflectors.
(1) Front clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the front or on the side near the front of a vehicle shall display or reflect an amber color.(Not just an amber bulb but amber lens)
(2) Rear clearance lamps and those marker lamps and reflectors mounted on the rear or on the sides near the rear of a vehicle shall display or reflect a red color.
(Don't see how the new Lexus' get away with the chrome tail lenses without other red reflectors added around or under the tails)

The code was written this way to ensure that a driver seeing a car perpendicular to his (say at an intersection) at night can determine which direction it is facing. Smoked Valentis and some others have NO red reflectivity from the side.

Be safe out there!

Actually, my brother got cited for having no front plate while parked outside his own house in Portland (he lives in SE, not downtown).

In Vancouver, Washington, where I live, my mother-in-law got pulled over for not having a license plate on her BMW 5-series. She received no other citations nor was she speeding, so watch out, because the cops here may pull you over for no other reason than not having a front license plate.

As for me, I got one of the Grimmspeed relocation kits. I lived in North Carolina for 15 years and would much rather have no front license plate at all, but like you, I didn't want to drill holes in my FRS.

The Grimmspeed is a decent compromise (though the front plate is still ugly, ugly, ugly).

been driving this whole time without a front plate, and never got a ticket for it. Managed to talk my way out of one a few months ago.

I'm not worried, just curious. I think that should I get pulled over, I can talk my way out of it. I just wanted to know if it's a common occurrence. Right now, the satisfaction of the lights outweighs the risk of penalty :P

What did you say to the officer? I've considered feigning ignorance.
