DRL Wiring Question
 

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and I am hoping someone can help me confirm something before I go cutting on existing wiring. I have done an extensive search through this forum for an answer to this to no avail. I have seen the question asked many times but no one seems to have a clear answer. Thanks in advance for your time.

Here is what I would like to see. I would like the stock drls on my car to die and never come on again.... except when I need the high beams. I would like the parking lights to function exactly as the drls do without loosing blinker functionality. What I mean by exactly like the drls is that they are on when the stick on the wheel is in the first ("off") position and off when the headlights come on. In theory this would allow me to run switchbacks as my drls in the daytime, then have the white lights go off when the headlights come on and only have the amber blinker functioning.

I have a theory on how to do this but like I said, I am hoping to get some type of advice/confirmation before I go cutting on factory wiring. My theory is this could be accomplished with the least amount of time and effort in the following way:

-First go to the drl resistor and remove the green wire (12V power source) from the harness going into the resistor.
-Run this wire to the green wire (parking light power source) on the back of the blinker harness.
-Repeat on opposite side.

I believe this should do everything I am trying to accomplish. Disable the factory DRLs and leave the high beams operational. Treat the white LED light of the switchbacks as the new DRLs and shut them off when the DRLs would normally shut off. All without losing my blinkers.

-Electrical wiring is certainly not my forte but I am confident I can make this change cleanly and efficiently if I know exactly what to do before I begin stripping wires.

Toyota techstream can disable the DRL I believe

Go to Toyota and tell them you want your DRL's off through techstream. It should be free since its part of the service bulletin.

Props for want to do your own thing, but this must be easier

Thanks for the input guys, but this only solves half of my problem. I am aware of the various ways to simply disable the drls, but I am essentially looking to move the drl function to another bulb. Looks like I am going to just have to go for it... I will report back with results.
