Recommendations for plug and play speaker upgrade?
 

Hey guys, I've been looking into replacing the factory speakers. I have a 2015 with the touchscreen head unit, and I want to keep that. I'm looking for something simple that will wire right in and fit right up, replacing the dash and door speakers. I've tried searching the forums but it's all pretty confusing to someone like me who has a very basic understanding of the stuff. Some of the stuff I came across was debating over wattages and ohms, which is right over my head. I also found some speaker installs that required custom spacers in the doors to get them to fit. I just want something that'll fit right out of the box.

Can someone recommend a set of components that will wire up easily and sound decently, preferably for under $200?

TBH you need to go to a shop, if your not willing to put in the work to research you probably shouldn't be DIYing it, you won't be happy with your results.

For the door speakers you're honestly not going to get much better sound unless you change out the amp, as it has a low-pass filter built in.

I got much better sound out of the doors by replacing the speakers with Infinity 6032cf 6.5"s (6.75") and replacing the factory amp with a Kicker 11DX125.2.

I'm running the L/R door speakers and a 10" sub bridged to the amp, sounds really good and I spent less than $200. I simply tore everything but the frame out of the door speaker brackets and used some outdoor mounting tape to secure the speaker to it. The solder the connectors to your speaker and you're good.

I wanted a system that was easy enough to convert back to stock (sans door speakers) and that ran off of the 15A factory circuit.

What about just replacing the dash speakers? I can take stuff apart, solder, and put it back together, it's just the research I have trouble with. Plus none of the discussions on this site have been very straight forward.

If someone could suggest some dash speakers that would be plug and play, that'd rock.

What do you want to accomplish by replacing it? The dash and rear speakers are the same size and they're just twetters, meaning they only output the "voice" of the song.

Door speakers are the ones that have your bass.

not quite... the dash speakers are tweeters and "midrange" from what I understand, while door speakers are woofers. Rears are full range-ish.

There's currently no cost effective direct replacement for the speakers. What you could do is wire up a pair of 2-way speakers to the doors, run wiring to the trunk, and hook it up to an amp. However, this will be about 150 for speakers and another 150 for amp/wires/etc, assuming you DIY.

From my research, sound upgrades on this care are pretty much an "all-in" or "just deal with it" upgrade.

I'm planning to just get 3-ways wired to a 2ch amp in the near future. Cost will be about $600 or so.

I tried to do this after I got my car and quickly realized there is no such thing for plug-and-play for the dash speakers. You have to cut wires, remove the factory harness, etc. Door speakers are easy, those you just drop in with an mounting bracket and a harness adapter if you don't want to cut the wires.

It's a slippery slope because once you put in better tweeters in the dash, the rest of the sound will really be lacking. Then you'll need to change the door speakers to get full range of sound. And finally you'll want a sub-box to add some bass.

As far as I know, aside from taking your car to a stereo shop to do the work for you, your only DIY options are to go with an OEM Audio kit which will start around $1K, or do similar to what me and a bunch of other guys have done(see my thread below)

I'm very happy with my sound system now after spending around $200 bucks. (of course I got a deal on some parts)

I don't believe there is a cheap and easy fix. Honestly you're better off getting a 2 or 4 channel amp and wiring the component speakers up with new wire for the best results.

I am looking to replace the factory speakers, mainly the tweeter and the speakers in the front doors. Even though I have an existing amp in the storage I am not looking to change too many things at this stage, I think decent speakers should do it. If it does not work then i might have to look at installing the amplifier (which would also mean replacing the head unit, as I believe it does not have the pre-out for the amp).


My questions are as follow:

Is there a factory fitted separate amp in the car or is it just runs from the head unit?

I have Polk splits from my old car, the tweeters being in the dash, how do you run the wires from the crossover?

How do you remove the grille from the dashboard speakers?
