Missing Key Hole Cover?

Got home this morning, noticed this was missing when I got out. Was quite dark when I got in my car, could have been missing before I left (theft attempt?), anyone seen this fall off without being forced? I did leave my gym bag on the passenger seat in a sketchy neighborhood, not the best idea.

About 19k on the car, probably call the dealer later this morning.

Thanks,
Tom

The metal looks a little messed up. Is it just me or is the metal ring around the key entrance slot elongated towards the bottom? and dinged all around? Maybe thats how it comes but we don't see it, doubtful.

My bet would be someone tried to break in. Popped the cap off, then drive to hammer something into the barrel.

Just like that top gear episode were they buy used bmw convertibles

Yep, took a closer look now that there is more light out. Someone tried to jam something in there, dented the top part out and bottom part in. Key still fits in but doesn't work. Lock mechanism probably isn't cheap. Would be an insurance thing then? Was hoping that if it was just the cover the dealer would do it without questions.

File a Vandalism claim, just pay deductible (hopefully its less than $500)...Most insurance providers wont raise rates for Vandalism as far as I know but I may be wrong.

That sucks man, Id be pissed. :paddle:

Thanks. There are a few new scrapes/scratches around the handle as well, hopefully they can cover all of that.

If your filing a claim and paying a deductible, then be sure they fix every little thing up to your expectation, and choose a reputable shop that guarantees their work!

I had my hood punched in once, took it back after they "fixed it" with a repainted replacement 3 times before they got it right. Ended up needing another replacement hood because they dinged the replacement.

From the couple people I talked to, usually this type of theft they count on bashing a screwdriver into the key slot and being able to turn it, and doing the same for the ignition. Is there even a real key ignition in the steering column of a brz limited?

But yeah, would have sucked to wake up to that.

Nope, no key. Then again, thieves aren't exactly smart...

Plus I'm pretty sure it has an imobalizer, so don't think it would have started anyways.

They were probably after the bag remember?

Nope, just a cover for where the key hole would've been, it's that way for most of the key-less push button cars I've driven. I highly doubt that method of stealing would've worked on the FR-S the immobilizer prevents that

Looks like it dented the door panel below that area as well. Fun.
