Today I received some of the worst news I have gotten in a long time.

We lost our fellow 86 friend @buzznasa two days ago.

He was an intelligent and funny person, always making everyone giggle around him. He was very knowledgeable and always gave a helping hand. We shared our very first track day together; it was one of the best days I have ever experienced. He was a loving husband, great friend and teacher. I thank ft86club for bringing us together. It was a pleasure and blessing to have known you Buzz. There will always be a special place for you in my heart. You will be truly missed. I send my condolences to his wife, she has requested for us to take a long drive down Highway 9(his favorite road) in his honor. I invite anyone and everyone to come join me to celebrate his life.

Buzz’s memorial service date is not in place yet, I will keep everyone updated when I find out more information.

Love Always,
Sandy

i envied buzz's career. he built some awesome machines. buzz was also an awesome human being, very generous. i am greatful to have met and spent time with buzz at the meets and at the track. my last memory of buzz was 7/11 thunderhill 5mile track. first lap out, buzz went off track, brought back a bunch of dirt that almost took me off track. great times. i will miss you dearly my friend. g

Rosaki 08-07-2014 11:16 PM

Wow, such sad news. I didn't get to hang out with him as much as I would have liked, but everything about him pointed to him being an amazing person. We had great conversations every time we talked. You will be missed Buzz.

Rest in Peace

Buzz introduced a bunch of us to two games during one of the most memorable Southbay meets. We played Cards Against Humanity and Ricochet Robot. I've picked up RR since and my kids and I have been hooked - playing it won't be the same but we will continue to play. Thank you Buzz.

Rest in peace Buzz we will miss you

Seeing those pics made me choke up a bit, especially the one with me lined up next to him at the track. We've spent quite a bit of time together on drives, track events, and just BSing at meets. Truly a standup guy. Buzz, my friend, you will be missed. RIP. :(

words cannot say how sad I am.

more may come later, but for now -- the world was a nicer place when he was with us. the world is now a little bit worse without him. RIP my friend we miss you.

Was in shock when I heard the news. You will truly be missed Buzz. :-(

I met him at 86s fiesta last fall when he just moved in town. he was excited about the mountain backroads of NorCal. since then, i saw him almost every other week as he was very active: midweek meet, Dublin meet, drive, autocross, track, or just to hang out with other 86s owner.

This one time he brought "Card Against Humanity" card game to the midweek meet. Many of us were laughing so hard and had such a great time. We kept on playing and if there was no closing time at the food court, we'd probably be there till midnight.

Last time I met him was at THill in June when Buzz is experiencing TCS off for the first time. He got some dust but he always had a smile on his face and never failed to make us laugh. He kept talking about how excited he was to try to 5-mile track in 2 weeks. We always had a blast when he was around...

Rest in peace, Buzz.

Please let me know when you is the drive on highway 9 for Buzz. I will be there!

finch1750 08-07-2014 11:57 PM

I was floored when I found out. I only had the pleasure of meeting Buzz once but he was just a flat out cool guy. I am lucky I had the one opportunity at least.

He will be missed.

doggieboy09 08-08-2014 12:01 AM

He was one of the first people that I have met and welcomed me in the 86 community and moving the bay area. I remember the first time I met him was in one first major 86 bay area meets in Livermore just shy of year ago when he showed off his impressive stereo system and even started a popular thread about it. He let me jam into the epicness of his sound system and gave me a ride in his corn fueled car. When I lost my job, he offered a chance in an interview and gave me some advice and insight into my career goals. When I first started autocrossing in SFR SCCA Oakland he was always encouraging of my improvements and driving manner. He was a regular in the Wednesday south bay meets, track and autocross events. He brought cards against humanity to one of the meets that brought so much fun and dirty humor.
He leaves a wife whom we all know he loves and adores so much and has let everyone know that he does. Norcal86 will never forget you and how much you have bought into out close knit community. It’s because of people like him is the reason why I value the community so much. Goodbye friend.

Pwolf 08-08-2014 12:18 AM

I've been a bit lost on what to say for the last hour or so.

I first met him at 86Fiesta. This was my first car meet and he had just moved to CA. Among the other people I met that day, Buzz and his wife left a lasting impression on me as a newcomer. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few more times over the past year.

Buzz was an awesome guy, with a great personality. I wish I had the chance to get to know him more. I'm always talking about how great this community is and Buzz was a prime example of why I go out of my way to meet and drive with you all.

I'm a firm believer in surrounding one's self with people who make life and the world a better place to live in. Buzz was one of those people. He will be sorely missed.

Rachey's FR-S 08-08-2014 12:22 AM

Words can't even express the hurt I'm feeling right now. Tears are flowing :'(

He was one of the coolest and most interesting people I've had the pleasure to meet. Always with a smile and he never forgot a face. Highly intelligent but you wouldn't notice because of how humble he was.

You will be greatly missed, friend!

RIP Buzz!!

Love & light

Clipdat 08-08-2014 12:24 AM

What sad news, especially for his wife. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but from reading the other posts he was larger than life.

May he rest in peace.

unsurety 08-08-2014 12:32 AM

I've only talked to Buzz a few times at meets but I was always entertained by his enthusiasm when he talked about whatever. First met him at the 86 Summer Kickoff caravan to Oakland. I only did the 3-mile track but his Thunderhill guide helped me a lot my first time out. I wish the best for his family. In his honor I'm going to buy Ricochet Robots and show it to my friends.

Terrible thing to hear... I don't know about others but I'm always in disbelief when I hear about things like these. Sometimes the worst things happen to the best people, unfortunately.

BigFatFlip 08-08-2014 12:41 AM

Wow, I'm kinda at a loss for words. He was one of the most approachable and genuine guys in the group. His enthusiasm was contagious, not only about cars, but all his interests. Everybody's posts are just testaments of how great of a guy he is. I hope you are enjoying that twisty road in the sky Buzz. RIP.

cactus 08-08-2014 12:43 AM

I am at a loss for words. We will miss you Buzz.

Buzz made this and it made me giggle.

Update:

Alexia (Buzz's wife) will be giving the 86 community some of his ashes to spread on Highway 9, this way we can visit buzz anytime on the windy road. She would like us to do it the same day that other people will be celebrating his life, then we can post it on the FB page so everyone can follow.

ERdave 08-08-2014 01:17 AM

His memory lives on

I met Buzz at 86 Fiesta last year. It was my first meet, and Buzz and his wife were the first folks in the 86 Community that I came to know. Even from those first minutes at the picnic table, it was easy to fall in like with him. He was generous, enthusiastic to share his knowledge, and carried a great amount of presence in any crowd.

Buzz was a man of character, and that is the highest compliment I can give.

Pish 08-08-2014 01:20 AM

I have only known Buzz since June when I went to go buy him and his wife some Earl Grey Tea at Starbucks .

Since then I have genuinely enjoyed his company at all the Southbay meets (he was definitely one of those characters I would travel to the meet from SF for) .

I can't believe he is gone ; just hearing the news made me feel so empty inside it hurts :(

My last memory of Buzz was him speeding off on his Motorcycle (boy that thing left me deaf for a few hours) , strapped in leather looking like a complete BADASS .

The world is definitely a bit worse without him around .

Enjoy the race tracks up there Buzz ! Hopefully E85 up there is free !

P.S. A drive in his honor is a must !!

Bach415 08-08-2014 01:26 AM

My condolences to Buzz's family. Even though I have not met him, I propose that we should plan a drive on highway 9 as a memorial cruise as well as spreading his ashes along that road.

SLEEPER WRX 08-08-2014 01:40 AM

At the 86 Fiesta in Oakland I was one of the non meat eating people and Buzz went out of his way to clean the grill from meat to make two veggie burgers for me.
He double-checked on me to make sure I was fed and the food was good.

I was going to say the same thing. Buzz came in and without hesitation started helping us in the grill/prep area. He was cooking on another grill and when he found out our charcoal was starting to die out he grabbed a foil and we relocated to his area. He was so concerned and wanted to make sure everyone was fed.

Damn, I'm still in shock.

Race In Heaven.

Goddamnit, I was just talking to him and everyone else the other week about ThunderHill @ Chik-Fil-A. He had so much knowledge and didn't hesitate a bit to share it. I can't believe this still, he was literally sitting in front of me that night.

There was an obvious void at 86Day without his presence, I like many of you overheard countless people ask, "Where's Buzz"?

I hope what took him from us was painless and left him with a happy soul.

Rest in piece brother,

.ck

ddeflyer 08-08-2014 02:17 AM

Though I only met Buzz once, it was quickly obvious to me that he was a fantastic individual who was truly interested in bettering himself and all those around him. One only needs to look at the huge energy that he put into his five mile guide to see how much he wanted to help. I considered it a privilege to help him on the T-Hill three mile, and I was honestly looking forward to seeing his progress next time. He drove with passion and aggression, but he was also extremely eager for input. He absorbed information very quickly and applied it effectively. In short, he was the type of driver we all should be and the sort of person upon whom communities are built.

May Buzz rest in peace and his family be blessed; he will be sorely missed.

The first time I’ve met Bret Buzz Dawson was at a South Bay car meet located in Mercado Plaza Santa Clara California almost about a year and a half ago. We ended up sitting together for dinner and right away I knew that Buzz would forever be a long time friend of mine. We ended up chatting about careers, physics and most important of all, our cars. Right there in that moment time I knew that Buzz would end up one of the most intelligent friend that I’ve met in the Ft86 club. I was really impressed upon his credentials and the vast amount of information that he knew. As days, weeks, months past we would see each other at the South Bay car meets, events, drives and have a blast. We would also hangout outside of the Ft86 scene and became really good friends and to other members of the Ft86 club as well. He led 2 of the coolest best “BIGGEST” South Bay caravans heading towards the official Summer car meets. Buzz would always be remembered and would be never forgotten. May you Rest In Peace your friend - Rollan

I am in shock.

I've haven't been to many of the south bay meets, but the ones I went to he was there. He was always energetic and willing to share his knowledge. The big thing that I saw was he was open and friendly to everyone. I still can't believe he's gone.

My condolences to his wife and family.

:( wow I cannot believe I just read what I've read. Even though I've only met Buzz a handful of times, it was easily known he was an amazing guy. He was one of the first ones I met at my first meet at Smoke Eaters by Great America. May you forever rest in paradise Buzz. I truely hope I can make the drive In his honor.

Losing someone you care about is never easy. It always leaves you with regrets, longing for more time, and trying to figure out your own feelings. In the end though you're left with the good memories. The good times. The smiles and the laughs. You brought out the childlike wonderment and excitement in me, and I feel like all of us in the community brought the same out in you when we were all together. I didn't get enough time just talking to you, and learning from you. You will be missed Buzz. You will be missed more than you could ever imagine. Thank you for touching all of our lives so positively.

x18999 08-08-2014 05:51 PM

My condolences to his family. I remember the first time we met was at five guys on one of the midweek meets.

Rest in peace.
