Quality Windshield Replacement - NY

Earlier this week I polished my windshield to rid myself of some hard water spots and misc. driving marks from sand and grit. I don't have an indoor workspace, and I dun goofed.

A foreign object embedded itself into my polishing pad, and the scratches weren't apparent until after I thoroughly cleaned my polishing area with window cleaner. I attempted to fix with a rotary polisher, but the scratches are too deep.

I don't trust Safelite to replace my windshield without scratching the surrounding paint or using the wrong gasket - are there any shops that do quality glass work that you guys can recommend? I'm looking for OEM only, and I don't mind traveling to get it done right. Thanks!

I'm in the NY Hudson Valley, and I'm often up in the Ithaca area. Again, I don't mind driving to get it done right - Nothern Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester, Albany, Northeastern Pennsylvania are all options.

After getting a LOT of rock chips, I too wonder if there's a better aftermarket glass we could use than the stock windshield? Or is all safety glass basically the same?

I'm actually alright with the OEM glass, it's the installer I'm worried about. Safelite has screwed over my family more times than I can count on one hand. The worst was my brother - a Safelite installer scratched the paint underneath the gasket near the roof. 3 years later, his roof was rusting out. Safelite's insurance eventually paid, but that's a pain I don't want to be involved with.
