Window tint in MI

I was thinking about getting some tint done. In Ohio you can go 50% on all side and rear windows.

A co-worker in MI just told me that you cannot tint the driver passenger side front windows beyond the top 4" (just like the windsheild). This is retarded!!! Is it true? Is it something that is enforced?

I was planning 50%.. which is noticably tinted, but not very dark.. But I don't want to get in trouble in MI because of it..

Any thoughts from the MI locals?

Your co-worker is correct. Without a doctor's prescription or out-of-state plates, no aftermarket tint, whatsoever below 4" on the front windows.
Michigan Tint Law

That said, I have a very light tint on all my windows, and have never been stopped in 15+ years. On the other hand, my wife had two vehicles with tint, and she was cited and issued "fix-it" tickets for both of them. In both cases, no charge for the ticket, just pay a tint shop to remove the offending film, and take the vehicle to the issuing police/sheriff station for verification to dismiss the ticket.

If you want the tint, get it. Just accept the fact, you may have to pay to remove it, and reinstall, if you want to keep it for the long haul.

You can get 35% tint. Which is pretty close to not tint anyway.

thanks for the input. I might go for 50% tint.. that's even lighter than 35% and I don't think it would be too obvious.

Worst case, I guess I'd have to get it pulled off the front driver and pass side windows.. so it wouldn't be a total loss.. i could keep it on the rear quarters and back.

Im from SE MI and your not supposed to tint the front two windows (as you said 4 inches from the top is fine) However I have 20% on my edge all around and 50% on the windshield and 35% on my IS300 and i havent gotten hassled for it for the past 5 years.
It really depends on the cop honestly.
but to be safe i would do 50% or 35% what color is the inside of your car?
