FR-S base BeSpoke display issue!
I got 2013 Base FR-S bespoke head unit display turn off when I have my head light off, it will come on when I have my handbrake up, or when I turn on the parking light or low beam. I try to look into setting and hoping to find the reason why its doing it, but i was not able to find anything related to display? how do i keep the display always on!?
Thanks, |
Here is the video which will explain the problem I have better!
display went off when after I start the car and set off the handbrake, is there a way to make it stay on all the time? [ame]http://youtu.be/uinT-_sD7G0[/ame] |
I think the problem is with the dimmer/illumination wire. Subaru has a screwy way of dimming the lights on the front of the stock head unit, so the orange wire on the standard wiring harness doesn't follow the standard.
What you need is for the orange wire into the headunit to be +12V when the headlights are on. TEST: Use a volt meter and measure the voltage on the orange wire when the headlights go on. SOLUTION: Wire the orange wire to something else. I suggest the light or switch in the glove compartment. The light is only operational when the headlights are on. Something in there has gotta have +12V on it when the headlights are on...just make sure the +12V is still there when the glove compartment is closed. |
The more I think about this, the more i'm wondering what that wire does when the lights are on. Many Subaru's are different, but I'm surprised that the FRS/BRZ doesn't use the Toyota standard which should be normal.
Measure the voltage on that orange wire with the lights on and off...hopefully that will reveal the problem. |
i don't remember when it start doing this.. so weird!

Did it 'develop' this behavior? I don't have this hu so I can't speak to default behavior, however generally developed undesirable behaviors are warrantyable

I agree. I assumed that this was happening when you installed it. If this just started happening one day, I doubt it's the illumination signal wire. It wouldn't hurt anything to check but you can probably ignore my other ramblings.
