Noise coming from rear of car
I just went out to my garage and heard a faint sound of what I thought was a fan of some sort. The car hasn't been driven in 5 hours. I kneel down and listen under the car and realize it's definitely coming from the car. I went to the rear passenger side and it sounds like it was coming from behind that wheel. It sounded like an electric fan. I grabbed my keys and fired up the electronics/ecu (2 start button presses) then turned it off and it stopped. Was this maybe the fuel pump? Wtf

Haven't had one of these threads for a while.

Amazed how little time people take to learn about their cars via the Owner's Manual.

S' ok. Would have thought it was bigfoot violently interfering with it if I didn't catch that deterred timing thread.

Furthermore, this particular issue isn't in any troubleshooting section of the manual, so it's not something he would have been able to look up easily. In fact, it's in the introductory section, which is not a place most people would look for troubleshooting information, and it says nothing about a "fan" sound. It just says, "a sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes." It doesn't even tell you which end of the car might be making the sound. Even if you had the PDF version of the manual, it wouldn't be very easy to search for it. If you're just looking in the paper manual, you're not gonna find it without reading the whole thing. As for reading the whole thing, I read the manual cover to cover myself the night I picked up the car, and I didn't remember this being in there. I had to search "evap" in the PDF just now to find it, which you wouldn't know to search for unless you already knew what was causing the sound. I'm impressed with all the people on this board who have eidetic memories, but for us folks with regular brains, sometimes we have to ask for help. |
Sorry to open this old thread up again, but for the second night in a row, I was in my garage and heard this "fan" noise coming from my passenger rear tire. Of course, I was concerned. The first night, I fired the car up and drove it out of the garage and back in. I stopped the car, and the noise was no longer there. Tonight, I heard the noise, ran back into the house to get my phone so that I could record the noise, and put it up to you wonderful folks on this forum. When I got back out to the garage, the noise had stopped. So, I did a search on the forum, and this thread came up. I'm so glad that this is just the evaporation system doing its magic. I'm also glad that I didn't take all the time to record the noise and ask the question, and hear the inevitable answer "read the manual". I'll admit, I did read the manual - front to back - and somehow didn't come up with this answer. (I usually dog-ear the pages that have things I haven't seen before). So, once again, I want to thank this forum for answering the questions many of us have with the peculiarities of this car that we all love!

I was out in the garage yesterday enjoying the new car and checking out everything about it when I heard a noise coming from the passenger side. I was concerned about the strange noise but after I checked the manual, it just turned out to be the wife.
