How much should a clear bra cost?

So my BRZ comes in about 10 hours! Over the weekend I went to 2 separate tint/clear bra shops. Tint ranged from $250 to $300... both said clear bra would be $1,200! Is that a high estimate for a full clear bra? It's for the full hood, bumper, front fenders and mirrors... I guess part of the reason it's so expensive is because no one has released the "template" for it yet... so it has to be a custom clear bra? Is that price sound normal to you guys? I was thinking it would be about half that lol

SuperSatinBrz 05-29-2012 04:50 AM

Let me know how your clear bra experience turns out. As if the price is right, some of my coil over money will go towards this.

scion charges 400 for the hood and fenders and 600 for the bumper

that should give you an idea

I got a quote for $600 for full clear bra. In South Florida.

1000-1400 , you get what you paid for.

I've gotten a similar quote for the entire front hood, entire front bumper, side fenders, side mirrors, and the area under the door handles.

MiguelAE86 05-29-2012 08:52 AM

Way less than whatever you guys are talking about, works just as great.

 (Clear Plasti Dip)

From my experience, that clear bra estimate sounds right for the whole front end. You totally get what you pay for, the installer is really what counts. If they're not the shop that does high end cars in your local area find out which shop does and go there instead.

That tint estimate sounds really high for a 2 door. $200 for a sedan is a normal price from what I know.

I may not be able to take a can of spray paint to my brand new car. Got any pics of this applied to a vehicle?

Norcalmav23 05-29-2012 01:02 PM

thanks for the help guys. That plasti-dip stuff looks pretty interesting... I will investigate.

Makes sense it would be more competitive pricing down there, since there are soo many tint shops around(I used to live in Lauderdale). In the north these types of places are much more far and few between.

I did the full front of the car as well, with sideviews, rear bumper ledge, inside the door handles for $1k, and 200 more for tint, at Guardline in Puyallup WA. Amazing craftsmanship on the install, worth every penny. Find the shop that has the best reputation, and remember- this is an area that you don't want to go with the cheapest bidder on.

civicdrivr 05-29-2012 02:40 PM

$700 is the average for from bumper, fenders, hood and mirrors. Shop around. The dealer may even have someone that they contract out to.

thill 05-29-2012 03:39 PM

I went with my dealer on a recent purchase and was able to get the bumber, mirrors, and about the 1/3 of the hood done for $399 (after negotiating from $599). I liked going this route because it was a company the dealer had been using for years, was very familiar with the car, and I would have leverage through the dealer if there was an issue.

This was the 3M Clearshield, I have been very happy, and this is the second car I did the Clearshield with. My last car prior to the newer one I did not, and regretted it within the first year as there is a lot of new constuction around me and that means lots of rocks...

I called a couple places around here (Orange County) and no one has the 'template' for the 3M treatment yet. I'm not sure where to go at this point.

Same here in Florida. My guy says the template company is trying to get a BRZ in TX to make a template.

Mavrik 05-29-2012 07:23 PM

I'm having Clear Car Armor applying film to my BRZ today. Its going to take them about 2 days but they do awesome work. They did my STi and the lights on my 2.5RS.

I'm having the whole hood, both complete fenders, front bumper, mirrors, side skirts which will carry part way up the rear fenders, a piece along the top of the rear bumper. Clear blue film on the fog lamps, clear film on the running lights and headlights. Total out the door $1299. And they are cutting me a deal cause of the work they did got me in the past plus how many people I refer to them.

They are custom cutting it due to no cutouts available.

eikond 05-29-2012 07:27 PM

Is it really worth $1200+?

Can't you repaint your entire hood, fenders and front bumper for less than $1200? Seems like a waste of money to me... I guess I could be wrong..

ZmZMWagon 05-29-2012 07:32 PM

Get a sponsorship , find a shop that is willing to do it. The BRZ is the hottest thing going right now...

neutron256 05-29-2012 07:38 PM

I got a quote from a local company here in Minnesota.

$399 for hood, mirrors, door guards, and fenders.

$799 for all above and the front bumper.

I dont mean to thread jack, but here are videos, FAQ's and many other resources to buy, and research about plastidip (the owner of this "store" actually lives in South Florida and works from home, so feel free to call him!)

Check the Guide/Video Section!

Pro-tectfilm headquarters where they make the patterns for their nationwide installers is located in Vegas. If any of you made the trip they'd make a pattern from your car. I don't think you'd get a discount or anything though so probably not worth the drive from LA.

Frost 05-30-2012 12:56 AM

In Canada for the good stuff (3M Clear Stone Guard or whatever it is), it is roughly $380 CDN for the hood and vital areas (side fenders), $650 for a full bra (complete from bumper, front hood, side fenders). I went to 3M Trimline here: http://trimlinegraphics.ca/.

They do the same applications for dealers and the dealers mark it up by 15-20%. I went straight to them and if you pay cash, you get tax off (13% off).

I strongly suggest getting the full bra if you love your car. The 3M stuff saved my hood more than once on my 12 hour drive to Quebec City from Toronto. I literally found stone chips embedded in my shield and when I pulled them out, it did not penetrate the shield far enough to hit the paint.

Highly recommended.

Just got Crystalline tint on all the windows and clear bra done at a great place in LA.

$750 for tint and $1100 for the bra. This includes bumper, full hood, full fenders, A pillars, roof, rear bumper applique and door handle wells.

Will have full review soon!

Khyron686 05-30-2012 01:33 PM

Based on previous cars, I'm doing front bumper/fenders and a strip along the trunk entry, but not the hood. I was quoted 450 or so.

If you do decide to do the hood, do the whole thing or nothing. Every car that does the 10 inches up looks like crap after a few weeks in the sun (can always see the line).

Furtive 06-06-2012 04:06 AM

1300 for clear bra (full hood, front bumper, full fenders), tint, smoked tail lights and reverse lights

Would love to hear where you got this done in LA.
