FIVE:AD by FIVE AXIS Spoiler installed
4 Attachment(s)
Got a pleasant call from the garage on Friday. "Your spoiler is in you can come pick it up"
Here is a semi unboxing. You can see what it includes. This was my first time installing a spoiler using 3m tape and the adhesive promoter so I was a bit nervous about screwing it up. The car is only a month old. 1.) prepped the car by washing it first. Concentrating mostly on the trunk area. 2.) Dryed off the trunk area 3.) Mixed some isopropyl alcohol with water and thoroughly cleaned the area where the spoiler will be attached. 4.) Let the car sit in the sun for aprox 45-1 hour to heat up the trunk. 5.) Cleaned the trunk area one more time with alcohol Then followed the instructions included in the spoiler kit. Honestly I found the templates not very useful..kinda got in the way...but the china marker was quite important because it will give you a visual reference where to apply the adhesive promoter supplied in the kit. Another tip is when you pull the ends of red backing of the adhesive. Tape it to the spoiler...there is a chance it can curl back under the spoiler during the installation. This 3M tape is insanely strong....once you drop it on the trunk it aint moving! Had a scary moment when the spoiler was placed and it was time to pull off the rest of the backing tape. Not knowing how strong the tape was I started pushing down the spoiler before pulling off the rest of the backing. The seal was so tight that the backing tape almost broke while pulling. Not sure if that made sense but "Pull off all the backing tape on the top before pressing down to seal the spoiler!" then repeat with the bottom. The spoiler goes edge to edge! There is no gap so be careful....when you place it to test fitment....it may look like there is a 1 mm gap on each side. |

Here are some photos of the spoiler installed. The fitment is excellent and really follows the lines of the body. Beautiful spoiler and balances out the car. Love it and really happy with this purchase.

They also had another set of 'proper' bolts but decided not to ask me if I wanted to use those. Kinda gave up on the camber ...it's just a smalll poke. Don't want to pay for another realignment. |

JDM Exhaust Tips
4 Attachment(s)
JDM exhaust tips arrived today, the tips look huge when they are sitting in your living room. Not really a big mod, but something that I felt needed to be replaced.
Incredibly easy to install, make sure you spray your old bolts with some WD40 a few days before. Don't want to break the head of the bolt off. Such a small cosmetic change but I feel it was worth it. |
Start Button
I found a shop that will install a start button for me. No smart key system.
Ever since the S2000 came out I have always wanted a start button in the car. Now all cars seem to have one. Unfortunately the FRS that I love so much still doesnt. Functionality of the S2000 is all I want....put in the key, turn and press "Start" The installer said that he could modify the stock button to work. Found one on ebay that also included the console tray for pretty $55. Fingers crossed...really hope this goes smoothly. |
Footwell mood lighting opinions
Thinking about installing some Red LED strips for mood lighting in the footwell...probably install a switch to turn it off or on.
Is it too Fast and Furious? Too cheesy? LOL Its fun but I think it will be a guilty pleasure that I experience when I drive alone. HAHA |
XXR 527 Center Caps and 86 Stickers
4 Attachment(s)
Rocked the wheels with no center caps for awhile. Had the XXR caps sitting around for a few weeks. Decided to use an old bottle of heat resistant matte black bbq paint and give it a spray.
I am guessing it will last for awhile. Also picked up some 86 stickers from a local supplier. The XXR decals are 55mm while the 86 stickers were 48mm. Just had to carefully center them. Looks good. |
Perrin 'Shorty' antenna replacement
1 Attachment(s)
Noticed the stock antenna was slightly curved by the force of the wind. Luckily my local parts supplier had some Perrin antennas kicking around.
Personally I am not a big fan of the shark fin style antenna. I find the shape to be really odd. |
Wowzers. This is almost everything that I want to do to my FRS minus the wheels. Can you please post some rear corner shots of the car with the spoiler? Thank you!

Nice!
the car looks great! I also have a Whiteout Fr-s that I just bought last week. Really liking the wheels, still debating if I should get the bronze, gold or gunmetal xxr 527s.

I've cut wall murals with it, where I had to line up 4 sheets of 4' x 8' feet with little problems. so car stickers is a breeze. (if thats what you are using it for) The challenge is to learn the craft, weeding, application etc....getting the settings right......but mostly straight out of the box the equipment needs very little tweeking. ordered it from ebay http://stores.ebay.com/USCutter-for-...sub=4133946018 this is the one i am using http://www.ebay.com/itm/Good-Quality...item3f16e88ee7 just pick the size that suits you the best. If you have any questions feel free to pm me. Cheers! |

Added Red LED's for night time mood lighting
2 Attachment(s)
Ordered 4 red led strips for 6 bucks of eBay and some 99 cent switches.
Installed some night time driving mood lighting. Used two switches one for driver and one for passenger. Put them where the heated seat buttons go with a yospeed center console piece. Yeah its a bit fast and furious, but sometimes when I need light in the car, you don't really want the super bright cabin light. |

Trunk Lid Liner

A part that was not included in the FR-S to keep the costs down I am assuming. Was really surprised to see the bare metal.
Part was relatively low cost....I think it was aprox $80 at the subaru dealer. If you decide to order this part make sure you order the little snap on clips that hold it in place. |
WinJets in Black
5 Attachment(s)
Really excited to have received the Winjet headlights via Fedex. Ordered the headlights from eBay. Arrived in 4 days all inclusive so there was no brokerage fee.
Some people dont like the Winjets but I think they look great! The installation took aprox 7 hours. Worked on it slowly during a sunny day. With breaks and lunch etc.... For those who are thinking about this mod there were 2 areas that were difficult. 1. the side markers - I tried inserting the screwdriver to push the tab down but just ended up pulling the side marker till it popped off. You will use a bit of force. It really feels like you might snap it. Once you realise how much force you need the opposite is a breeze. 2. adjusting the horizontal alignment of the headlights (right headlight next to the battery) - finding the right socket combination to fit between the headlight and the battery was a pain. (I can post a picture of the socket combination I used that fit) I did not wire the HID kit into the Winjets before installing. I would recommend doing that if possible. But if you don't its totally ok just a bit tight. Had a bit of fogging the first two days. But its totally fine now, seems like a normal thing....driven in heavy rain, washed car etc.... just to make sure everything was good. Overall I love the look of the Winjets. |
Hey I live in the Vancouver area, Cloverdale to be exact. Any recommendations on a good place to buy wheels?

Man I'm so happy I found this thread. I got a white BRZ and I was torn apart between many wheels, these XXRs look so good I might get them for myself! Thanks! :respekt:

Wheels and Tires in Vancouver

Garage 5 - a one stop shop for Wheels and Tuning. Their supplier had the matte bronze XXR. You can order all your parts and book a day for install. Reasonable prices. Ask for Adrian or Rob 1010 is decent as well. They didn't have the matte bronze when I called. Good selection of low-mid level wheels. Hope this helps |

Rebadged the car today and added some trim pieces
5 Attachment(s)
This weekend I decided to rebadge the car...being the first time taking badges off obviously I was a bit worried about scratching or accidently taking off paint.
All the tutorials in the forum were a big help. Just to share my personal experience doing this mod, It is actually quite easy especially with a heat gun and fishing line. The heat gun helps alot when you need to take off the first layer of glue residue after you take off the badge. A quick tip to remove the residue, heat a bit of the glue and roll a bit with your finger, heat a bit roll a bit. It will be hot to the touch so do it quickly. Seeing the steering wheel emblem badge on FT86Speedfactory was the deciding point on doing this mod. you can find it here: http://www.ft86speedfactory.com/toyo...rlay-1943.html I feel its the cleanest option besides ordering a new airbag from overseas. Really like the 'chrome' trim around the air vents.. they are more super polished steel than chrome. An update from the Speedfactory was that they will replace the damaged center trim. Great service and great communication. Order from them with confidence! Over all the job took about 4 hours working leisurely. |

Been awhile since I have posted in the forum, had a baby boy so I haven't had too much time to play with the car. Thing have finally settled down a bit, as a birthday gift to myself I decided to order a few things which might lead down the path to go faster parts.
Ordered the OFT tablet and a drop in K&N filter with plans to purchase a UEL header. Also ordered the DAMD seat covers in black with red stitching. Look forward to taking out the seats and installing them. |
Hey a fellow Vancouverite (well im from Abby) anyways. Sub'd. :)

DAMD Seat Covers
7 Attachment(s)
Received the DAMD seat covers in the mail on monday, ordered them from 86 worx. There was a 2 week delay because DAMD in Japan was waiting for their latest production run. The package was sent via EMS and arrived aprox in a week.
Thanks to @Pointmutation for posting his experience with these seat covers. I recommend taking out the front seats to install these. We did installed them on a sunny day in my friends yard. The sun heating up the leather helped take out the wrinkles. Not going to go in depth on how to take out the seats many tutorials online. Tools Socket wrench Front seat 14mm socket for the seat belt E10 Torx socket to take out the seats Rear seat 10mm socket Heat gun or Hair Dryer to help take out the wrinkles I live in an apartment so I started with the rear seats first, they were easy to take out but requires the most work to take out the wrinkles in the bucket area, could do this in the comfort of my home while watching the nba finals. Once all the wrinkles were out of the back buckets I needed to shape the seat so I used a sack of rice....how asian. haha Then went to my buddies place to finish the front seats. The front seats are nice fitting and looked great instantly. Just keep massaging the wrinkles out. Took my time and installed it over a few days. I do admit half way through the install there was a moment where I thought "this is the worst purchase I made for the FRS, I should sell the kit" but after it is installed and settled a bit I am really enjoying it. Most people who have seen the interior didn't notice the change cuz it looked OEM...which is a good thing. You don't want people saying nice covers! There is a small part of me that is still a bit unsure that I want to keep them . Maybe because inside I know they are covers and have not gotten over that. Time will tell. |
