Engine torque damper ?
 

Hey fellow twins owner, might sound stupid here, but I was wondering why noone makes an engine torque damper for our car.

Now I know motor mounts do a lot, and my past experience with these was with my mazda 3 (lolwut too much power) but it actually greatly reduce wheel hop and allowed a smoother launch with traction turned off.
Why if motor mounts are used to reduce engine movement couldnt such a decixe be used in the aame way

So yeah if some crazy car dynamics guy could chime with some explanation, id love to listen !

I would assume because our car doesn't make a lot of torque?

Its something that reduces the engine movement under load, doesnt really have anything to do with the power it creates (actually the more power the more movement but you get my point )

Then maybe it's because it's a boxer engine and due to that layout it balances itself out? I had something installed like this on my Nissan Altima.. it was called a torque rod. It reduced engine movement and made it smoother.

Yeah i had one in my mazda and sentra, worked good in fwd. Maybe only exists for fwd !

17 million pages regarding the FR-S and not one about a "torque damper". Congrats, man!

Searched again ! No article whatsoever anywhere on the web regarding torque dampers and frs ! So i cant be worst than all of these "how to hit hit 400 rwhp with 1000$" or the "should i wait for the hybrid kers convertible flying 2035 frs or get a mustang 2014 because straight line power" threads

Perhaps you could tell us just what an FR-S torque damper is supposed to do. That would be a great start. I did google "torque damper", but it's late and I'm not sure about the results. Do I laugh or cry?

The actual purpose of the Torque Damper is to reduce engine hop due to torque loads, on the mounts. It's more useful in race applications where high-powered engines produce a lot of counter-movement resulting in harshness. The vibrations also affect shifting and power delivery, to some extent. Hence the use of torque dampers.

You seem to be serious. Seek help. I think. ETA: Do you mean the TRD engine mount pucks that allow the motor to turn 90 degrees under hard acceleration? Some people think those are crap and a rip-off, because there are JDM's that let the engine do a complete 180.

Are you on some kind of drugs ? Even rode in a fwd and experienced something called wheel hop ?

FWD? FR-S?

Its for fwd. Rwd=no wheel hop. Well at least none that a torque dampner solves. On fwd though they are glorious!
