There are already 3+ threads made for this video....
This was just a prank done with fake paint that washes right off. Is it a **** thing to do? Yes, but this is how Youtuber's make their money. The more views a video gets the more money they make. And lastly taking up two parking spots is not called double parking. Double parking when you park parallel to someone who is already parallel parked on a street. It is common to see this in places like NYC. |

what you're talking about is "boxing" someone in. and are New yorkers really that bad about this? it seems like the most impolite thing i can think of next to vandalizing someones vehicle |

The best is trying to explain to them alternate side parking for the street cleaners. |
crazy. so what's it considered to be called when someone takes up 2 spaces in parking lot?

In NYC, double parking is so common you pretty much expect to come across a vehicle double parked if you're traveling down the right lane for a few blocks. Usually it's a large delivery truck or even a bus - those you can see for a block ahead and plan accordingly. There's plenty of times it will be a car however.
As the cars parked along the curb are usually not going anywhere for the next 8-24 hours, you're not really blocking someone in as much as you are blocking a lane of traffic. Worst offenders used to be at airports. You'd easily get people even triple parking in order to drop off passengers - which causes not just a huge backup with 2 out of the 3 travel lanes blocked, but now those people parked for 5 minutes at the curb have to navigate through two lanes of parked cars in order to attempt to get out. Since security crack downs though, they don't let anyone double park much (aside from buses just trying to run their route) and you don't get this extreme mess as frequently. Taking up 2 parking spaces is a completely separate issue bc in that case you're not blocking a lane of traffic or blocking someone in their parking spot - you're just taking up an additional spot. |
Yeah, NYC is a cluster fuck.
I used to work for fedex and fedex is charged exactly $0 for small violations like double parking, and other simple violations. I think the only parking violations that are charged in full to them are bus stops, hydrants, firelanes, and stuff like that. I used to have a list but not anymore. |
In addition, people "parked" in a lane of travel might be waiting for a spot to open that someone just got in to their car. The car waiting is essentially double parked though at least still in the car. The appropriate response is the same however - hit the horn in frustration in hopes the driver is within earshot, then try to merge into a lane of traffic that is moving.
And for all those West Coasters to relate - it's like going 50mph down the PCH and coming upon a car fully stopped in the right lane waiting for the guy in his wetsuit on the shoulder to finish changing so he will move his car and open up a parallel parking spot. ;) |
