SARD intake pipe or Takeda/Greddy intake?
Which one would you guys go with and why? SARD intake pipe looks pretty efficient and has some sort of flow testing done in a software on their website it looks like, but the takeda intake has proven dyno results. I dont want to go with a true CAI as I do not want to remove the bumper everytime I change out the filter...

The stock system is already pretty much optimized. Most filters or intakes show additional power because they lean out the AFR. @GrimmSpeed did a bunch of dyno tests on a bunch of different filters and intakes while they were developing theirs; it's posted in one of their threads.

They all make power, it's just a matter of how.
Check out the air:fuel ratios as GrimmSpeed progresses from OEM system to K&N filter, modded snorkel, and silicone intake tube. As you run leaner you make more power, but at the potential cost of causing damage to your engine. I know they've extensively tested the intake they're developing so it will make power while keeping a reasonable AFR. |
If u want a real performance boost buy the Zeek snorkel or any other brand that mimics it. I promise u will feel it during accelaration above 60 mph. Combine that with a high flow filtter for optimal results. If u dont believe me then try it and prove me wrong.

whoa the Zeek looks crazy efficient!

not sure if I have the money to do this, but damn this is also pretty awesome...

There are a few aftermarket snorkels, not just the Zeek. Off the top of my head MaxRacing, HKS, Prova, Syms and Kansai all make them. If you search I am fairly sure there have been threads on here on each of those.

Go with the Sard. Carbon Fiber wont soak up heat and the stock air box is already a great design so its better not to mess with it by changing it out to a AFE or any sort of intake.
The best thing IMO from all the dyno's we have seen from this engine is to get an intake pipe/inlet like the Sard, Zeek or Perrin Inlets, drop in filter, and if you want an after market or modified snorkel. After the car is tuned the gains from an intake are literally nothing. If you compare the differences between a tuned car with an aftermarket intake to a car thats tuned with no other mods you will see the difference in power is little to nothing between the 2. So IMO just go with the Sard inlet and a drop in filter. A snorkel wont necessarily increase your power/hp much but it will increase throttle response as that is the main purpose of the mod. |
So how does an intake pipe increase throttle response without increasing horsepower? Does it lighten the reciprocating assembly somehow?

The Sard pipe is close to $500. Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

This is where many of u are wrong due to lack of real racing experience. Dynos dont show the benefit of a ram air snorkel. Even with a fan in front they cant replicate the car moving through air at 80 mph or more. A direct ram air snorkel is a must if u want max performance. And snorkels like the hks do not work. Those kind get too much hot air from radiator region. Also they dont pressurize; a direct ram air actually presurizez at speed.

If you want to waste money on a CF intake tube that won't break the bank
