2015 STI Steering wheel

1 Attachment(s)
The new steering wheel subaru has on the 2015 STI is simply sex. anyone know if we can put it in our cars? I dont really care about steering wheel controls as long as the airbag works.

Turbowned 07-28-2014 12:37 PM

Yeah, sex with a polygon-shaped troll... Ugh I hate the look of this wheel, sorry.

MstrSHAKE 07-28-2014 01:24 PM

Love the steering wheel and Would also love to have those radio controls functional too.

tahdizzle 07-28-2014 01:49 PM

No thank you.

Not that I dis-like flat botto steering wheels. I like em.

But I appreciate how minimal the interior is in the twins.
Granted taking your eyes off the road to mess with the radio is dangerous, But I like the sound of the engine mo betta anyway :D

Kuros 07-28-2014 01:52 PM

Yeah, it will work. But its gonna cost you a lot of money and time spent making it work.

Vten 07-28-2014 02:04 PM

Yup I loves my Sti steering wheels:) ! I believe Cusco make similar one for our car without the buttons .

MrBlaze-65 07-28-2014 05:04 PM

^^ That guy got it. The STi wheel may be bigger diameter wise... could cause some knee hitting issues. I may be wrong on that one part though.

gramicci101 07-28-2014 05:05 PM

But with the flat bottom how will you be able to steer with your knee while you're texting and drinking Starbucks?

Havsie 07-28-2014 05:26 PM

I really wish Subaru gave these cars that steering wheel. I remember on a few prototypes they used a similar one to that and I was hoping that would be the final design.

The lack of steering wheel controls is incredibly frustrating. That would honestly be one of my main reasons why I'd trade my car in on a WRX...stupid as it sounds.

ikr, i do this all the time in my wrx

DarkSunrise 07-28-2014 06:14 PM

If the steering controls wouldn't work anyway, why not go with the alcantara Prova flat-bottom wheel:

Smaller diameter than your stock steering wheel, and it looks very comfy.

krayzie 07-28-2014 06:55 PM

That's just a copy of the GTI steering wheel, and it's huge. After using the BRZ steering wheel, no thanks I like small diameter.

thunderlights 07-28-2014 07:00 PM

are the Cusco and prova steering wheels bigger than OEM?

I believe cusco is a little smaller in diameter. A member under @swift996 had one on his black BRZ ...

How could the flat bottom make these activities anything but easier?

bcj 07-28-2014 11:49 PM

These cars have radios?

Who'd a thunk? meh

Back on the 2012 CES, the Brz they showcased there have a wheel that looked like ours with with these controls and it looked better then this STI wheel  I sat in one in person.

I think these should be an option for AT only, with Mt these are just distractions.

HeadBanger 07-29-2014 08:06 AM

Honestly, this is a sports car. It shouldn't have controls on the steering wheel.
I also prefer the look and shape of ours.

That one seems bloated... Just like an STI

its a sports car that I primarily daily drive. I agree with the statement but I would love it did have the volume controls. My music and this car is bliss together.

Superhatch 07-29-2014 09:27 AM

Considering I drove mainly older cars up until now (classic Nissan/Hondas) not having controls seems normal to me.

While I'm sure the STI type wheel would be welcomed by many I'm leaning toward something smaller which still has an airbag. I see the Cusco wheel in my future.

I'll say that it would have been nice for the twins to at least have the option of adding things to the wheel, even if it was just power and volume for the radio. It seems like a small trade off for some convenience that many people like. This isn't a 97 Type R which came with no AC or radio...we've got dual climate control, nav, auto power windows, heated seats/mirrors. Why would a few simple controls on the wheel have ruined anything?

STV3 07-29-2014 09:40 AM

Yuck, round steering wheels FTW. I love the stock steering wheel in our cars. I think they are perfect.

I actually have an aftermarket steering wheel in my other car and it has a flat bottom and I thought it was cool and all at first but now I freaking hate it. Just doesn't flow through my hands smoothly for daily driving. Going to change it out soon for a round one.

krayzie 07-29-2014 09:58 AM

The controls on the STI steering wheel are not very well thought out either, just useless clutter.

The first flat bottom steering wheel was real elegant and still the best imo:

And this is how you do proper cruise control with steering wheel buttons:

I never understood the fascination with steering wheel audio controls. My GTI has them and I never use them.

With both my FR-S and GTI, the volume and radio settings are on the dash, just a few inches away from my right hand. It doesn't bother me to have to move my hand a couple of inches to push a button.

However, I do like a flat-bottom steering wheel. Adds a little more knee space and I find it slightly helps me keep track of the position of the wheel.

The Cusco is 350mm diameter if I remember, it's smaller than the stock one. I loved it, it was the perfect size and nice and thick. Probably the best steering wheel I've ever touched. The new STI one looks nice though, I wouldn't complain if I had it.

That's what she said.... :scared0016:

thunderlights 07-29-2014 11:10 AM

When I had steering wheel controls on another car, I never used them. I just want thick, small and flat ;). Is the Cusco one thicker than stock?

That was the one I was talking about, I remember seeing photos of it back then and hoping that would be the final version.

I don't see why it matters between AT and MT though, it's not like I'm changing songs while I'm shifting or that I'm shifting all that often. I generally just sit in 4th or 5th gear and tap my steering wheel angrily because the people in front of me are going below the posted speed limit on straight country roads.
