Wasted my time

I'm confused. But Welcome.

Ok

Someone has to do a 1UZ swap into this car! Someone who is both brave and stupid! It would be awesome to see and hear.

I was thinking about 7mgte swap due to my past experience with them. The motor is solid long as you replace the oem headgasket with a mhg.

Nice thread. Keep the info coming.

I don't think I have heard of many reliable 7M engines. Whether boosted or NA they blew head gaskets.

Not enough power for the amount of hassle. I also don't agree with it being the best for forced induction (it's still only a 4.0 and it never saw a factory supercharger upgrade)

True, but why? If you're going that route, the 2JZ is the better option because of availability. They're both heavy as hell being they're iron blocks.

The headbolt torque spec was too low from the factory, but I've never seen a 7M in stock form blow a headgasket that was under 100K miles. 2JZ and 7M headbolts are nearly identical in metallurgy so that's not the issue. If one properly resurfaces the block and head and installs a metal head gasket with properly torqued hardware (like the 2JZ-GTE came fromt he factory) they're a fine engine.

I'll end the hijack here as I could write several books on the MKIII Supra...

You could do a twin turbo vh45.

While they aren't massive, they are pretty strong! Just like Nissan's VH45, it was built for racing. You get a forged crankshaft, forged rods stock, and 6 bolt main bearings!! Not to mention their pretty light, and they sound great!

I think the big problem with the 1UZ is the parts you can get for them. . . there isn't much. Hopefully there will be more though in the coming years!

I took some drifting lessons two weeks ago, and the cars we used were S15 Silvias. One had the typical turbocharged SR20 and another had a naturally aspirated Toyota 1UZ. After trying both, no doubt the 1UZ powered Silvia was way better. No lag, instant response and gobs of torque. Good luck on your build!

They've been saying parts are coming for years now. It's an old and effectively dead engine.

Now the 3UR...

the 7mgte is a huge pile of fuck, they're not solid with a headgasket or with anything else, and you're smoking crack if you put one back into a mk3 supra after you pull it out let alone put it into another car let alone an FT86
