Bad encounters with other FRS/BRZ/86 owners?
We always hear about douchebag drivers coming from other cars (think Genesis, 3 series, Mustangs, etc.) but I'm sure the twins have their own fair share of d-bag drivers.
Be it something you witness while you're driving your own twin, or perhaps you're incognito and driving the family van/SUV or what have you, what stories have you got to share? For example, a few days ago I was out with my sister to help pick a laptop for her and I wasn't driving my FRS. We park beside a stock BRZ, and the owner comes just as we exit the car. Guy looks pissed we park beside his car, and looks all grumpy, arms crossed and shit (we didn't park close to him or anything, just regular parking). So he stands and watches while we get out of the car, while his fat girlfriend gets into the car and lowers it 2"s. :iono: Just kind of a smug attitude emitting from him. Anyways, look forward to seeing some humble stories about our own kind! |
There's a dark grey one that drives around the north side of Vegas sometimes. You can tell he gets pissed at other cars who aren't paying attention, because he ends up cutting them off and driving like an asshat.
Oh wait, that's me. |
He could have just been pissed he had a fat girlfriend... ?

My license plate offended a FRS owner in Greensboro. As I'm sitting at a light some kid in a red FRS pulled up next to me. I glance over having noticed the car and he is looking at me like I had just made a pass at his mother. He rolled down his window and started yelling at me "MY CAR HAS PLENTY OF POWER THANK YOU VERY MUCH", continued to ramble on and then revved at me. Little did he know... the person in the V6 Toyota Rav-4 sitting in the 3rd lane was watching the whole thing and had the capability to smoke us both. The FRS owner then proceeded to attempt a large burnout when the light turned green...but it was obvious that he didn't think to turn off the traction control. The Toyota Rav-4 walked all over him, as I accelerated at a normal pace to the 45 MPH speed limit laughing the whole way.
My plate, for those wondering what started this wonderful encounter.... https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5334/...82ec7fe2_c.jpg |
I wasn't driving my 86 the otherday, I was actually driving my moms car, she needed me to run some errands. So I'm driving blah blah blah, try to get on the free way, blah blah blah. Try to merge but nope! I attempted to speed up since this red frs (huge dent in the side door btw) was doing 50. He speeds up to match my speed and I try to brake to get in behind him, he wasn't having none of that aparently and he almost ran into the person in front of him. I just about died laughing as I changed a few lanes over and accelerated away.

a car is never going to cure someone of being an asshole so they are found in all sorts of vehicles. i think its best for people to simply not associate any type of personal characteristic to any sort of "community"

not so much of an ass hole thing. But i find around me its the owners with modified twins that do not acknowledge other owners or just blatantly stare. I find the stock ish people are much nicer and wave or thumbs up!

there's a lot of twin owners in the crappy town I live in, and most of them give the 3 finger salute off the top of the steering wheel, and if we're side by side at a light they'll ask what I have done to the car...
BUT there's this one chick in a lowered FRS with exhaust that mean mugs me ALL THE TIME. Maybe she's jelly my car has more mods? I don't know. I do know that EVERY GOD DAMN MUSCLE CAR owner tries to race me. Ricers too. I politely ignor them, they get pissed and haul ass off. I've almost ordered a large vinyl sticker that says "yeah, it's slow" to put accross my rear bumper. |
About two weeks ago I was downtown in my Carolla when I saw a new, all-stock Ultramarine with a temp plate from Beaverton Toyota cutting people off, having to brake hard and then accelerating madly anytime there was more than 4ft between him and the car in front of his.
This was happening in the middle of busy city blocks - I stayed out of their way and watched them slam on the gas as they cut ahead of someone with about a fourth of the block left open between him and a red light. They must have not paid attention to the light because they ended up having to slam on their brakes hard, and stopped thoroughly in the crosswalk to not run straight through it. I see that kind of shit-for-driving around here all the time from riced-up cars, Challengers, and Mustangs, but it made me a bit annoyed to see that coming from someone driving an FR-S (that must sound elitist :(, but I was embarrassed for the guy). |
I've only had a positive encounter with another Brz owner... We just drove spirited for a bit on the morning commute. We raced a bit in a two lane then I just followed him the rest of the way. He waved to me when he turned.
I got mean mugged by some guys in older Wrxs at Walmart once (big surprise) Had a guy in a new sti ask me about my car Had a guy in a gti tell me he hated his car and wanted my opinion on my brz I've also had tons of people try to race me, and more people than ever cut me off now that I have this car. |

I barely see any on the roads around here, but every time I park my car there's someone else owner of one or not there to ask me questions about the car.

I agree with you. It is very embarassing when you see a fellow twin driver drive around like an asshole. It's almost like you don't want to be associated with them, and as you put it, "embarassed". There are stereotypes for all sorts of cars... Be it that Prius owners are annoying, Mustang/Genesis are narrow-minded 1/4 mile enthusiasts, etc. We would generally like to think that twins drivers are a little more classy and sophisticated, even though this may not be true. I suppose the purpose of this thread is to shed some light on that dark area that we as a forum don't really cover. It's great to see some honest stories here regarding other drivers. Look forward to hearing more! |
Everytime I see another twin I test their braking distance and 0-60 acceleration.
I have a very scientific method of performing these tests. Step 1: Find a twin driver on the road. Step 2: Speed up and get in front of the driver. Step 3: Slam on the brakes. Step 4: Accelerate. If he/she doesn't slam into me, he/she has some pretty good stopping power. If he/she catches me to vent their frustration and disapproval, then they are pretty quick too. :D |

I do not own a twin but I am a huge fan and I convinced my son to buy a FR-S. Every FR-S/BRZ owner that I have met has been great. They are enthusiastic about their cars and excited to be a part of the car "scene" whether that be meets, C&Cs or driving events.
Based on some of the post on this forum, I have just been lucky so far! :D |

I say with some pride that most of the ones I've come across are well-behaved on the street. Good driving guys. :D |

However, you don't tend to find genuine idiots at the higher income levels. Society has a way of filtering those down to the bottom of the stack. These are the ones with the windshield washer lights and the black plastic Pep Boys hood scoop pop riveted onto the hood of their beaten down '93 Civic. In a few years our cars will be worth 12-15K, which is their playground. All kinds of people can afford these cars, so what I'm saying is that you can't assume that drivers of 86's are classy and sophisticated just because you want them to be. |
kid in the surrounding area of me, has an FRS, has crashed it several times in the year that he was owned it... stupid cheap mods
repaired damage, riced out... calls me the idiot....:iono: |
Lol, so much truth in this thread
The fact of the matter is that in the next 3 years this car will be the next RSX or Gen Coupe that bro douches will pick up for sure With that being said, there's this red FR-S in the GTA that weaves in and out on the 401. Aftermarket exhaust, barely legal tints, smoked tails |

Easy on the stock-bashing. Ultramarine, no less? Just because it's the best color is no reason... Just sayin'. |
Every twin driver I've actually seen here just mind their own business and drive normally/politely. Only been acknowledged by 2, an argento 10 series and an asphalt one similar to mine. Only people that have tried to race me are riced out hondas or mercedes slk's. Lucky for me, I take the curvy commute.

Not really, you gotta feed her to keep the car low LOL springs are a 1 time fee or even cheaper if u cut stock springs hahah |
I might have been a bad encounter for a fellow 86 driver I met at my gym about a week ago. I had parked next to him and we ended up leaving at the same time. Funnily enough, it was him and two friends, so three people stuffed into the 86. We talked for a bit and he asked where I lived because apparently his mom's neighbor has one (not me though), then we left. We ended up going the same way and I only have one real mod on my car, an overpipe and catless front pipe, so I'm proud of them since they're all I have.
He was behind me at a light, so when it went green I stomped it because the best sound difference is heard in the higher revs. I figured he might follow suit just for fun but nope, he just took off gently and I left him way behind. I felt pretty silly afterwards. |

If you did this without having a conversation, he might have thought you were being a douche. |

Bad behavior seems to attract further bad behavior and from other drivers too.
There was a car meet I went to and we had a caravan of 86s about 20 deep driving together to get to the destination. All of us driving respectfully, within the speed limit and in a single lane...EXCEPT this one guy. He decided he'd rather go ahead of everyone else, weaving and speeding through traffic as he went. At some point he even got a modded Honda to speed and weave through traffic with him (I don't know if they were racing or just being douches together). Karma caught up to his ass though, cause a few miles later he was pulled over and got a ticket for reckless driving. |

(Haha I used to own a Porsche so I can make jokes like that) |
Kid in a black FRS with spray painted tail lights tailgates me, then proceeds to pass me on the wrong side of the road and speeds off. I get further down the road and he's there stopped in the middle of the street and waits till I get about 20 feet from him and does a donut in the middle of the road and then drives off again...
Saw him a few times after and he looks to be maybe 17. Haven't seen him in a while so my guess is he wrecked it. |
