LOUD TICK-TICK-TICK sound on right hand side

Hey guys,

My car is driven fairly less. Only 15k on it as of now. Last night I noticed a loud ticking sound on the right hand side of the front of the car after I parked it. It lasted a few minutes until the car cooled down.

I know very little of this sort of thing and I'm really worried....

Car is still under warranty right? What should I do...?

Any help whatsoever will be appreciated!!!

So this is after it was shutdown? Is it different from the normal cooling down noises all cars make?

Was about to ask the same, might be the exhaust doing its thing.

Yeah car was shut down.

Never heard this sound before.... I know my friends cars dont do it.

It's from the right hand side in the FRONT. Not the back.

It goes like TICK TICK-TICK TICK-TICK TICK...

I'll try and record the sound for you guys.

all of my cars do it, from my BMW to my Scoobie, Range Rover, especially my wife's Mini, it's just cooling down

Sounds like the noise made when oil is dripping down from the head to the oil pan.

Oh good lord. Don't scare him.

The ticking you're hearing is the sound of the header cooling down. Many cars with steel headers do that. Cars with regular cast iron exhaust manifolds don't. A steel header will tick as the metal contracts as it's cooling.

I personally like it. I like to think of it as the sound of a sports car catching its breath after a run.

THIS^ I love the noise, especially after really running the car around :burnrubber:

This is NORMAL?

You guys are saying I just never noticed this before? Oh dear...

I feel even worse now

FR-S Matt 07-28-2014 07:49 AM

Seriously, this thread again? Have people never heard a car cool down from the heat expansion on metal parts? NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR.

Burrcold 07-28-2014 09:08 AM

Take the time to read your owners manual! Geez.

DarkSunrise 07-28-2014 09:44 AM

Are you talking about the normal ticking that a hot exhaust (catback/OP/FP/header) makes as its cooling down? Most cars will do that.

If you're talking about some other sound, then definitely bring it in.
