Like I said C6 Z06 tires are not that cheap due to size 18/19 285 n the front and 325 in the rear

but for the C5 Z06 it would be more like

OEM wheels (because they're forged, cheap and lightweiht and made by speedline) ~400-500 a set !!!!

even for the C6 Z06 I would get a used Grand Sport wheels since they're also lighter than the most aftermarket wheels and dirt cheap (About $500 for a set) and look for other tire alternatives..but if you want the ultimate grip I think you have the bite the bullet and go with R6 or similar tires I think

Yeah I'm beginning to think the C5Z is the way to go if the car will be tracked regularly. Helps that the car is much cheaper to begin with, although the C6Z is definitely the looker of the two IMO.

if you like the C6 platform ( well it's a newer more advanced car) , I think the Grand Sport might be a better choice because of the cost.. with the money you spend on a used Z06 you can always get a slightly used or even some left over car 2013 in a dealer lot.. it still shares the same brakes, rotors, dry sump system and LS3 said to be more reliable than the LS7 and cheaper to replace ..

with a good set of headers and tune 420-430whp is very possible and very close to stock Z06 power levels with the shorter gears, my 2 cents

because roads are not that good here in PNW compared to Florida and people drive extremely slow..other than the few months in track season you never really get a chance to feel the power ..

also I never owned a really light car in the past so I wanted to try Miata and BRZ ..also the steering feel on the BRZ is better in my opinion (may not be a game changer for many people though)

Yeah I've thought about the GS as well. It definitely makes sense, might be the middle ground. BTW that's pretty impressive power on the C6-GS with just the headers and tune.

That makes sense. You seem to hit the track pretty frequently, so I figured you'd be the last person to sell a C5-Z or C6-GS, but it's nice trying philosophically different cars out too. For me, the debate is whether to keep modifying the FR-S (JRSC, coilover, BBK) versus trying something different like a Vette or 911. Life's so short!

Blown engines in Z06's due to valves breaking is not an uncommon 'maintenance' cost...

exactly life is too short for one fast car :)

C6 GS makes a bit more power than the C5 Z06 and C5 Z06 with headers and a few lightweight parts and you can be below 3000lbs..

with that said the good thing about the GS, you can choose not the modify the car since it has plenty of power and only do handling and braking mods..with the extended GM Warranty (100 k miles)

or can just stick to what you have like you said, I think it's worth to explore this car (FRS/BRZ) with the mods you listed but without the added power it's plain boring IMHO

Are you referring to the valve springs? because I had my valve spring fail on me once but I didn't blow the engine.. it's a pretty easy and cheap upgrade for some reason C5 Z06 engines use yellow, german made valve springs (not sure why, lol) and I upgraded them with 800whp rated US made ones ..easy fix..

if I knew it earlier that would be my first upgrade for sure

Out of curiosity, among the C5-Z, C6-GS, and KWSC-BRZ, which did you enjoy the most at the track? BTW hope you don't mind me picking your brain a bit, just rare to find someone who's tried most of the routes I'm considering.

There's a reason the Miata is so popular as a "learning" car.

If you want fast for cheap, the C5Z is the way to go. I can guarantee that you'll be using the power as a crutch though.

How many videos have you seen where the vette driver won't go WOT until they're pointed straight *after* the corner? How many of these drivers smoothly transition from partial to full throttle?

These are skills that you most likely will not learn in a vette.
