Your MPG in LA?
Hey Guys,
I live in Downtown LA, lots of stop and go traffic especially when I am driving to/from work (9 AM and 6 PM respectively on a daily basis on the weekdays) Getting about 15 MPG at best, 95% of my driving is done in city. For those who live in the populated areas of LA where there is a lot of traffic, is this normal? I'm from San Jose, where I used to get an average of 25 MPG on every tank, so the massive difference since I've moved to DTLA takes me by surprise :P Any suggestions on how I can achieve a better MPG when living in such a populated area with traffic on a daily basis, or am I just going to have to accept the fact that 15 MPG is what I'm going to get on a N/A Flat 4 engine and such a lightweight car? I'm not driving aggressively either (not like I have much opportunity to do so in traffic), and keeping the shifting at below 3000-4000 RPM. |
I get 24.0 and sometimes even lower. I used to get 25 with 17" wheels but now I have 18". I live in the San Gabriel valley and there is often traffic in my commute but not as bad as those who need to commute to downtown in the morning.

I live in el monte and i commute to pasadena about three times a week. Work about 5x a week and to the gym 5x a week. All in opposite directions. And occasionally i would take local as well. Im sitting at 28.5 (receipt and calculator done.) I've actually gotten about 34ish mpg on freeway traffic all the way home from Pasadena before lol. But hell, most of the time im just rolling anyways.

I get 28.3 average in LA. I'm rolling most of the time.

I work in DTLA, and live near Dodger stadium. Luckily I drive during off-peak hours (10AM, 8PM) so I get about 24 mpg, with 90% city driving.
It looks like you, N1rve, and I are geographically pretty close... 10 series owners', unite! |
Running 18s with 255s in the back got me doing 28~29freeway and 21~22 city
Supercharged now E85 15mpg city 18mpg freeway 91 21mpg city/freeway combined |
I get a million mpg in downtown LA.....if you take the metro....and faster than driving in and out of Hollywood.......
Our cars seem to burn a lot of fuel idling. Welcome to dtla |
25.4 And I drive like an asshole.

I'm in my summer break right now and I drive mine on freeway and side street, I have no mod on it so far and have 26.3 MPG (according to the MPG odometer), I tend to accelerate very slowly as at one point my MPG was around 23 MPG.
I live in La Puente / Walnut area. Around 60 freeway between Nogales and Fullerton Rd. Sidestreet and freeway combination. |
27mpg freeway w/ heavy foot

I lived in west Hollywood during my first year of ownership and averaged 16-17mpg. This past year living in valley village it has increased about 1-2mpg. So, you're doing fine. Just means you're driving it the way it should be driven. Side note, a trip to San Diego I got 30mpg. So, it is city driving that guzzles gas. Enjoy the car and forget about the gas milage. :)

I use mine as DD, usually commuting between Walnut and Brea area. But I do drive all over LA/OC for work. I average about 26 when mostly city/ traffic and 30 when I drive more fwy. I have a manual but sometime i wonder what mileage i will get if i drive the auto.
