At the "Fast & Furious - Supercharged" thrill ride red carpet premiere, Jason Statham told Access Hollywood he will be returning for Fast & Furious 8.

Furious 7 has been a juggernaut at the box office this year, surpassing The Avengers recently to become the third highest grossing film of all-time. "Yeah, it just shows the fanbase is very unique. They really do relate to the characters. They love these characters. They've followed them for years and years," Statham said of the Furious 7's box office performance so far. "We're already talking about doing another one, Part 8. I'm a newcomer, I just got invited to the party on this last one. It is nice to know I'll be doing another."

Last we saw of Statham's Deckard Shaw, he was locked away in a maximum security prison. Although, he did promise to bust out one day and seek revenge. Statham wouldn't share any of the plot, but "there is some great stuff that I already know about."

Listen to Statham's comments in the video below.

Three last rides

Vin Diesel announced on his Facebook page the Fast and Furious franchise will come to an end after "one last trilogy."

Universal Studios chairman Donna Langley declared last year the long-lasting franchise still has profit potential, but they have to be careful in order to avoid "fatigue." She mentioned at least three more movies could come out and now Vin Diesel has confirmed that F&F will end after "one last trilogy" which will kick off with Furious 8 programmed for an April 14, 2017 release. Diesel also says an announcement regarding the names of the directors for the three remaining movies will be made very soon.

As a reminder, Furious 8 will take place in New York and will see the return of the crew, including Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Kurt Russell who will have a more important role in the newest film.

While the Fast and Furious franchise will end after the tenth movie, there actually might be a spin-off with Hobbs (played by Dwayne Johnson) as the main character, but a final decision has not been made yet.

Universal Studios certainly wants to milk the cow for all its worth especially since Furious 7 has so far grossed more than $1.5 billion after debuting on April 3 this year.

Vin Diesel Teases 'Fast 8' With New York City Skyline Image

The hype around Furious 7 may have only recently subsided and already, additional details about the eighth installment are starting to surface including the first promo picture for the film, the first in a final trilogy.

Posted by Vin Diesel on his personal Instagram account, the picture reconfirms previously-announced details about the next F&F film. For starters, it will be dubbed Fast 8, debut in April 2017 and be set in New York City.

The first movie in the franchise, The Fast and the Furious of 2001 was initially going to be set in New York but was instead filmed in Los Angeles. Fast 8 will therefore mark an important development in the franchise and the change of scenery could spice up the familiar recipe of car chases, explosions and illegal street racing.

F. Gray Gray was hand-picked as the director of Fast 8 by Diesel on the back of directing Straight Outta Compton, Law Abiding Citizen and the 2003 version of The Italian Job.
