wrx/brz motor hybrid?
So looking for info or if anyone has already done it. 2015 wrx short block with brz heads/ intake/fuel injection system. Looking to build my engine and looking at this being a low cost alternative that could be bolted together in a garage. Judging by cost of the fa20 short block (1700 bucks) I can't see the wrx motor being more than two. So a turbo short block for that price assembled with no core charge would be a steal, and judging by the performance of the na motor should be 500whp capable all day long. Anyway, any info?

block may or may not clear the starter. you might end up having to reassemble it into BRZ case halves and hope it works

Hmm, starter location is different? Could use a wrx starter? I noticed the case haves on my fa20 have clearances for a starter on both sides of the block. Looks like I'll have to take a trip to the dealer to look at wrx motor closer.

Cause I mean if im spliting case havles etc, im just better off getting rods and aftermarket pistons. I'm looking at an assembled block being a very simple bolt together alternative.

in previous threads, a lot of people took that to assume that it just won't work, but I really wouldn't be surprised if the blocks are the same and they both have pockets for the starter on each side. unfortunately, someone has to be the first one to try it  |
Comparing case halves from the forester xt, 20f turbo, since no part numbers available for the wrx yet Stock number is very very close, 11010ab290 vs 11010ab310. Wish I knew what the codes meant, is it possibly a passage that's bored or threaded, extra oiling? Hmm physically the case halves look identical on the technical drawings. Anyone have a wrx I can borrow an engine from to take a good look at?
