Keep in mind of the possibility that they could be loose from the start and they eventually popped off due to more stress from the dyno??? To many variables to put the blame on anyone in particular unfortunately. They could've helped as far as maybe giving you some sort of promise to pay thing instead of asking for payment right away given the situation? (Just what I would've done at least) Sorry to hear this happened though.

hope you get it worked out soon man.

Sorry about the car man.

SmsAlSuwaidi 07-24-2014 02:55 AM

Im really surpised, i had a shop incorrectly install WG lines on cousins brz, the car overboosted on an FA20crap base map(OVER15PSI) a couple of times and the motor didn't blow :/. The car has since been tuned nemours times and now runs over 12psi on 91 perfectly fine

stugray 07-24-2014 03:33 AM

I would ask for logs for all the runs they did that day.

If you have proof that the boost was being controlled in the earlier runs, and then not controlled in later runs (all while under their care), then it is definitely their fault.

EAGLE5 07-24-2014 04:20 AM

If they didn't do every single bit of the install, you're on your own. Putting the car on the street and the keys in the mailbox is pretty standard for picking up a car after hours. Should they have waited for you and given you a hug? The dyno is a pretty intense place. Things can and do go wrong there. In the end, you pay to play.

View this as a chance to get a built engine. I'd call up Full Blown, MAP, or Element.

The wastegate plug coming out is a possibility, but a good tuner and shop should be monitoring boost and that should not have blown your motor. I would ask for more details or proof of what occured when the motor blew. They should have been datalogging the car with EcuTek at the time the motor blew. I would like to hear the other side of the story from @PrimeMotoring and @JuniorAWD.

Well isnt this the furthest from the truth. Kai, i called you and told you exactly what happened but you proceeded to try to blame us. Who installed the kit? We even found another tial wastegate box to show you in the instructions you need to install the caps with loctite which in the picture below shows you did not. Your car was tuned last week and it came back to fix a hot start issue and touch it up. Unfortunately the plugs rattled loose by then and you are trying to pin anything on us. If we installed the kit and this happened, then we would owe you a motor.

You have been in contact with Junior and myself the entire time and no point did we tell you to "fuck yourself." You basically said that to us when you said to leave your car on the street and youll pick it up tonight. None of that gets mentioned though, its just "Prime Motoring blew up my car". Whoever installed the wastegate and did not follow instructions should take responsibility for the car overboosting.

In terms of data logging im sure @JuniorAWD will chime in with that since he has those. I can supply the pictures though.

This is what we find when trying to figure out why the car overboosted.

Tial recommends all fittings be loctited on, even the water fittings. This is a wastegate we had laying around. I didnt have the bag with the airport fittings because it was thrown out after the fittings were loctited and installed to dry.

Noticed the other port was hand tightened on and pulled it off to see if there was loctite applied....none

The other plug is underneath the dyno or somewhere in Kai's car. We could not find it to see but that is what we found. Everyone can play the situation as they please but we can not control hardware issues caused by user error. Like i mentioned, if this was our install, we would be buying Kai a new motor.

Wonder if they have data of what boost blew it up.

blackhawkdown 07-24-2014 01:08 PM

So why are we fi these cars instead of buying a wrx, sti, genesis 2.0t, 370z, 335i, Ore any turbo car stock, worth factory warranty? So glad I'm gonna stay NA

MAPerformance 07-24-2014 01:21 PM

Because its just the game of modding cars. And trust me, I have seen countless WRX's, STI's, Genesis 2.0's and 370s destroy engines all the time, (even stock ones) I don't see how they are any different. And there are plenty of N/A stock FRS/BRZ's that have blown engines as well. There are also plenty of boosted FRS/BRZ's running well without any issues, including my daily driven one.
