Default - Recirculated Air

Is the reason why the HVAC controls default to recirculated air due to the hot air coming into the cabin from the engine all the time?

Anyone know how to disable the recirculated default setting?

<---raises hand...

I wanna know why and how too.

Recirculated air is the default for max ac. It recirculates the air in the cabin to cool it down faster. So it is cooling air that has already been cooled. The only air coming in from the engine bay would be from the noise generator.

air doesn't travel through the noise generator, the generator body is a sealed diaphragm. If it was open then the engine would be sucking in un-metered air.

and I could be crazy, but I don't remember my a/c turning on recirculation unless I press the button. It will turn it off though if you switch the vent zone to defrost/windshield

They're more than likely talking about the auto-climate control.

Like previously stated, for max AC option the car usually will recirculate the in cabin air as it already has been cooled. Therefore it will be cooling colder than ambiant air making the cooling effect quicker

auto-climate control, is that the premium a/c option or dual climate or something? I just have the base a/c. I'll have to test it out on my trip to work tomorrow.

Default recirc improves the grams/mile emissions rating resulting in a higher mpg rating which helps their CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy). The 86 is pretty well sealed in the engine bay, thus the hot air, so recirc in this case is a good thing.

Dual climate is what I meant yes, half asleep at work and lost for proper words!
